Professional Competencies

Subjects
Victoria Park High School is seeking a diverse educator to join their team at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year! The successful candidate will be responsible to teach Photography (beginner and advanced), CALM 20, and then propose electives that will appeal to and broaden the experience of students in an alternative high school. These courses will be drawn from the successful candidate's skill sets, passions and experiences. Each of the courses will incorporate a multi-age, alternative program practice. They will be willing and able to take students on field trips and daily off-site photography excursions ie: river bottom, downtown, unique areas of the city, etc. They will design and/or teach electives that would broaden the experiences, skills and knowledge of students who often do not have the same opportunities as those in traditional schools. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, flexible, energetic team player who has;
- Previous background in photography (considered an asset);
- An ethic rooted in deep care;
- A practice of unconditional positive regard, employing a trauma-informed approach, through a culturally inclusive lens that respects and celebrates diversity;
- The belief in the power of collaboration, teamwork and transferable learning strategies;
- A deep commitment to supporting alternative learning opportunities, outreach supports, and engagement in anti-oppressive teaching practices
- Demonstrated commitment to leading and participating in life-long learning.

LethSD Summer School, offered through Victoria Park High School for all high school students in Southern Alberta, involves teachers from the LASP community supporting and marking coursework for one or two weeks in July. Those marking the Distributed Learning component receive time for time during the school year. Applicants should be prepared to participate for one or two weeks in July, with specific weeks being negotiable.
Thank you for taking the time to express your interest in being considered for a voluntary transfer to Victoria Park High School! Although this process is an expression of interest, it is still a competition amongst teachers in the division who currently hold a continuing teaching contract, so applicants will not be guaranteed an interview or a voluntary transfer.
Requirements
- Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
Conditions of Employment
In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School Division who are offered employment must provide:
- A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
- A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
- Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver's licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
- Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee's legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
