Our Accountant role at Abstract Developments plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial processing and reporting within the organization. This position involves supporting the accounting team by managing accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) transactions, while maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity. Reporting directly to the Controller/Manager of Accounting, the Accountant will assist in various financial tasks that contribute to the organization's overall financial health. This role is ideal for someone who also has an interest in growing their experience and knowledge in processing payroll.
Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for receiving, processing, verifying and obtaining approval of invoices related to accounts payable
- Provide the Project Accountants with support to the various construction projects by matching purchase orders, subcontracts and packing slips to invoices ensuring documents meet approval requirements
- Ensure AP invoices reconcile with the schedule of values
- Ensure subcontractor holdback releases are completed per policy and procedures
- Verify and investigate discrepancies, if any, by reconciling vendor accounts and monthly vendor statements
- Reconcile credit cards for multiple company accounts monthly
- Preparing cheques and ensuring timely payments to vendors
- Preparation and posting of cash receipts
- Preparing bank deposits, general ledger postings and statements
- Research, track and restore accounting documentation problems and discrepancies
- Collecting and entering employee expense reimbursements
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger
- With time, take over payroll (bi-weekly) processing.
- High attention to detail and accuracy of work
- Adhoc duties assigned by the Controller
- Liaise with project team, vendors, and other staff as required
- Support all organizational teams as required
- Uphold the Company brand pillars in all aspects of work
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ideally two (2) years of related experience
- Knowledge of GAAP and real estate related accounting practices
- Has experience in or the ability to learn fundamental payroll practices and payroll processing (Payworks currently)
- Strong work ethic and sense of responsibility and confidentiality
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office (SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Basic understanding of project contractual commercial terms
- Jonas Premier accounting software experience preferred
