The ISDA Advisory function sits within the Global Capital Markets team here at Validus. This is a client-facing role, perfect for an entrepreneurial self-starter searching for front-office exposure with the ability to build strong relationships with both clients and our banking counterparties. The ideal candidate will have previous knowledge or experience within the alternative investment industry and a keen interest in negotiating the key commercial terms of ISDA and CSA agreements, as well as providing ongoing regulatory support for our clients.

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Managing Client relationships, building strong relationships with both clients and banking counterparties.
  • Reviewing documentation for Know Your Customer ("KYC")/ Anti-Money Laundering ("AML") checks
  • Negotiating the commercial terms of ISDA and CSA agreements and advising Clients on the operational impact of the additional termination events
  • Collecting and interpreting of clients' financial statements
  • Financial modelling of clients' financial covenants under their ISDA and CSA agreements
  • Knowledge of key regulatory regimes & developments – including EMIR, MiFID and Dodd-Frank · Other project work as required.

Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree (e.g. Finance, Economics, MBA)
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Exemplary communication & team-working skills
  • Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment under tight deadlines
  • 5+ years' experience within the alternative investment industry (preferred)

About the Capital Markets Function at Validus:

The capital markets function at Validus was established two years ago, with the objective of developing a specialist front / middle / back office outsourced solutions for our client base of private capital managers, institutional investors and corporate clients.

This involves:

  • Establishing trading infrastructure (trading lines, ISDA agreements) with investment banks and other counterparties;
  • Executing derivative trades (as agent) on behalf of clients;
  • Communicating and coordinating hedging activity with clients;
  • Ensuring best execution across a variety of derivatives (FX, Interest Rates, Commodities, futures);
  • Managing and developing strong relationships with clients and across our banking panel of > 50 banks around the world;
  • Proactively working with clients and Validus colleagues to optimize hedging portfolios;
  • Designing and presenting hedging solutions to internal and external clients;

As the Capital Markets function develops, we are keen to develop additional expertise within the team; specifically:

  • A strong awareness and understanding of the macro environment and how this environment (or possible changes in this environment) might impact our client base. This also involves developing communications strategies to disseminate macro insights amongst our client base and to prospective clients and designing derivatives strategies which are optimized for current and / or potential future market developments. In particular, we are keen that our capital markets team is focused on promoting scalable and innovative solutions.
  • A strategic approach to capturing and commercializing data in a way which will add real value to Validus and our clients.

The capital markets function is currently based in Europe and North America. This role is based in our Toronto Office.
