Support Smarter Decisions in a High-Growth Environment

Join Acuity Insights as we enter a new chapter of growth and operational maturity.

As our Accounting Manager, you'll lead core accounting operations while helping evolve the financial systems, processes, and insights that guide our business forward.

This fully remote role gives you the opportunity to work from anywhere in Canada while shaping how a mission-driven SaaS company manages its financial health.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you'll own the accounting cycle end-to-end, from closing the books to managing AR, improving tooling, and partnering with teams across the company to support accurate, timely, and actionable financial reporting.

It's a hands-on, high-impact role suited to someone who enjoys navigating operational complexity, spotting opportunities to streamline processes, and bringing clarity to financial data.

You'll play a visible role in supporting a company that's scaling with intention and helping ensure we do so on solid financial footing.

The opportunity could be a strong fit if you're looking for a thoughtful work environment, meaningful collaboration across departments, and the chance to build scalable systems that support long-term decision-making and sustainable growth.

Your Role & Impact

With foundational systems in place, our Finance team is focused on the next stage: scaling effectively, speeding up operations, and delivering timely, decision-ready financial insights across the business.

As Accounting Manager, you'll own our core accounting functions from end to end. You'll lead the month-end close, manage AR and revenue workflows, improve reporting accuracy, and introduce automation that reduces manual work. You'll collaborate closely with Sales, RevOps, and Engineering colleagues to improve data quality and reporting reliability.

This individual contributor role is both broad in scope and highly visible. You'll operate at the center of how we understand and manage our financial performance, with the opportunity to shape scalable systems and processes that support a smarter, more responsive business.

What You'll Do

Lead Core Accounting Activities

  • Manage the full accounting cycle, from journal entries to close and monthly reporting
  • Take direct ownership of accounts receivable, including creating invoices, following up on receivables, managing the AR ledger, and overseeing Allowance for Doubtful Accounts (AFDA)
  • Support cash flow forecasting, tax compliance, and audit preparation
  • Maintain and improve internal financial controls and policies
  • Assist with payroll administration and implementation projects (e.g., new US payroll solution)

Improve Process & Data Integrity

  • Shorten the month-end close process and improve the quality of financial outputs
  • Strengthen the consistency and clarity of financial reporting
  • Partner with RevOps and Sales to improve Salesforce data and revenue tracking
  • Recommend and implement automation tools that streamline workflows and reduce errors

Enable Better Business Decisions

  • Prepare monthly financial reports with clear, actionable insights
  • Support department leaders in interpreting financial data and making informed decisions
  • Help lay the foundation for more robust FP&A capabilities over time

Collaborate & Coach

  • Work closely with our Accounting Specialist on AP, payroll, and tooling
  • Offer informal mentorship and knowledge-sharing to support their development
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Director of Finance as we grow and mature the function
Business Outcomes

Your impact will be visible in how confidently and quickly the business can operate.

Specifically, your work will drive:

  • A faster, cleaner month-end close that enables more timely reporting
  • Increased data integrity and confidence in financial reporting across teams
  • Stronger collaboration and alignment between Finance, Sales, RevOps, and Engineering
  • Improved cash flow through more accurate invoicing and proactive collections
  • Greater organizational ability to analyze financial data and take strategic action
  • Reduced manual effort through smarter tooling, automation, and systems design
Experience & Skills You Bring

Accounting Operations & Controls. You've worked in accounting roles with or within tech or SaaS companies, likely small to mid-sized ones, where you were hands-on with the day-to-day and contributed to shaping the systems around you. You've led accounting cycles end-to-end, closed the books, and kept a steady eye on revenue, cash flow, and controls. If the company was earning $15M or more in annual revenue, you were in the thick of it, helping make sure reporting stayed clean and timely. You've managed accounts payable and receivable, handled invoicing and collections, and worked closely with Sales or Customer Success to get AR right. You've been part of audits and know how to prepare and respond, not just react.

Systems & Tools. You're comfortable in cloud-based accounting systems and may have helped implement or improve tools like Xero, Dext, or Stripe. You like figuring out how to automate repetitive tasks and reduce errors, and if you don't have experience with AI in finance yet, you're definitely interested in exploring it.

Strategic & Cross-Functional Impact. You've worked alongside RevOps, Sales, or CS and know how financial decisions ripple across teams. You enjoy translating financial data into something actionable for non-finance teammates and are comfortable navigating ambiguity or complexity to move things forward. You build relationships easily and influence through trust and clarity.

Credentials & Orientation. You may be working toward a CPA or MBA, or already have one, but you understand that credentials are just one piece of what makes a great finance partner. What matters is how you show up. You've built strong relationships with external partners like banks, auditors, and advisors, and you bring integrity, accountability, and collaboration to everything you do.

Traits That Will Help You Thrive

  • Resilient, Curious & Growth-Oriented. You thrive in complex environments and don't get stuck when things are messy. You're curious, eager to learn, and resilient when facing challenges, bringing others along with your calm, thoughtful presence.
  • Tech-Savvy & AI-Curious. You're excited by how automation and emerging technologies can streamline work, reduce errors, and unlock new insights—and you're eager to explore and apply them thoughtfully in a finance context.
  • Systems thinker. Able to zoom out and see connections between processes, tools, and outcomes
  • Communicative and relational. Able to build trust across teams and explain finance clearly
  • Driven and proactive. Motivated to understand how the business works and how to improve it

Selection & Interview Process

Whether you apply directly, are referred, or connect with a recruiter or hiring manager, you'll receive equal consideration.

We carefully review every application, considering your experience, abilities, and motivation, along with the human qualities we value most and that help people thrive here: caring, curiosity, drive, resourcefulness, and resiliency.

We do not use AI to review your application, but you may be automatically screened out if you do not meet baseline requirements, such as country residency and valid work authorization.

To ensure accuracy and fairness, AI is used for automatic note-taking during some of our live conversations, but all evaluations and decisions are made by real people.

Our process is a two-way conversation. We want to learn about and understand your career, abilities, and interests and make sure you have all the information you need to decide if this opportunity is right for you.

Here are steps to expect:

  1. Application Review & Response. A human reviews your application for potential and fit. No matter the outcome, you'll receive an update via email.
  2. Conversation with Recruiter. Have a 60-minute phone call during which you get to share your professional journey, career interests and priorities and learn in-depth about the company, culture, and team.
  3. Meet the Manager. Spend 45 minutes on a video call with Matt Holland (CEO). Discuss your relevant work experiences and learn in-depth about the sales organization, and challenges and opportunities we need your help to tackle.
  4. Meet the Team & Showcase. Your Experience. Present a live case study relevant to the role, and meet with a few more team members, a blend of executive leaders, future peers and collaborators.
  5. Wait For a Decision. The Hiring Manager consolidates and evaluates feedback from the team to make a hiring decision. This typically takes 2-4 days.
  6. Offer & Reference Check. If we find a mutual match, we'll invite you to an offer conversation. The offer is contingent on completing a reference check.
The Future We're Building

At Acuity Insights, we believe everyone has incredible potential, and our mission is to help uncover and nurture it.

Imagine a world powered by everyone's full potential. We're working to create that future by building tools and insights that support holistic success for students, educators, and institutions around the world.

Our journey began with a bold idea: to improve how we assess people, not just by academic metrics, but by who they are. In partnership with McMaster University, we developed Casper in 2004 to measure the durable, human skills that matter in health professions and beyond. That vision came to life with the founding of Altus Assessments in 2014.

Meanwhile, One45 started in 1998 at the University of British Columbia helping medical education programs digitize complex processes like curriculum management, scheduling, and assessment. Over time, it became a trusted partner to programs across North America and beyond.

In 2021, Altus Assessments acquired One45, and in 2022, we unified as Acuity Insights, a single, growing organization with a shared purpose and broader vision.

What started as two distinct products is now one integrated mission supported by our Analytics platform, which delivers actionable insights to drive continuous improvement across the learner journey.

Today, our solutions support students and institutions from admissions to graduation across North America, the U.K., Australia, and Saudi Arabia.

As we continue to grow, we're committed to being more than a software provider. We're trusted thought leaders and valued advisors in higher education, offering practical solutions, strategic insights, and guidance that help our partners make confident, informed decisions.

Life at Acuity Insights

At Acuity Insights, you'll be part of a team of 130+ professionals. While we primarily collaborate virtually, we foster strong social connections and opportunities for in-person co-working.

Our core values - caring, curious, and driven - define how we work. We listen actively, collaborate openly, and act with integrity. We embrace challenges with creativity, resilience, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement. Above all, we believe in purposeful work that makes a real difference.

We are deeply committed to inclusion and belonging. We respect and value diverse perspectives and recognize that different experiences drive innovation and success.

Our workplace policies are designed to promote equity, flexibility, and well-being.

We encourage applicants from all backgrounds, especially those from underrepresented groups, to apply.
