OVERVIEW

On behalf of our client, Satellite Community Homes is in search of their next Executive Director. A leading non-profit property management company serving Waterloo Region, Ontario, and beyond, Satellite Community Homes has 35+ years of experience in Property Management and manages more than 1,000 units across 19 properties that span mixed residential, family, and seniors' housing.

MISSION

The Executive Director will lead the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan focused on growth, community engagement and long-term sustainable housing for all residents, including those from marginalized and vulnerable populations. The Executive Director will lead and manage all aspects of the organization, including Financial Administration, Subsidy Administration, Board Relations, Property Management and Human Resources Administration.

The Pod Group is partnering with Satellite Community Homes to place a compassionate and hands-on leader to fulfill the role of the Executive Director. This leadership role will be instrumental in managing external and internal priorities while utilizing innovation, creativity, and compassion to shape the future of Satellite Community Homes.

PRIORITIES

  • Leads and represents the organization and Board in the implementation of the Strategic Plan, Board policy, Government and Funder relationships and all community stakeholders.
  • Participates in the development of comprehensive and long-term strategic plans for the housing portfolio and all associated operational, financial and funder requirements.
  • Leads and manages financial planning, budget preparation, and adherence to operating and capital budget management, as well as cost controls. Ensures fiscal responsibility of the spending practices and revenue collection practices of the Corporation.
  • Maintains an effective preventative maintenance program in accordance with the operating budget and ensures buildings are maintained in a good state of repair and appearance is acceptable to the Board of Directors.
  • Facilitates ongoing communications between Non-Profit tenants, committees and the Board regarding Board decisions, policies and plans.
  • Leads and engages with residents as required to provide background information for decisions, acts as a resource, and assists with planning, goal setting and evaluation.
  • Provides oversight with respect to the organization's community development initiatives with a view to promoting strong and resilient housing communities.
  • Implements sound organizational and human resource strategies and programs for staffing, training, development, performance management and policy implementation, including health and safety in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Attends meetings of the Board of Directors to provide background information for decisions, acts as a resource, and assists with strategic planning, goal setting and evaluation.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable Regional, Provincial and Federal policies and legislation related to a non-profit housing corporation.

Requirements

TALENTS & EXPERTISE

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or extensive experience and thorough knowledge of managing complex non-profit organizations. A Master's Degree would be considered an asset.
  • Progressive, successful leadership of complex functions and/or organizations that include Board, full financial, and human resources responsibilities.
  • Successful development and/or implementation of strategic plans with extensive experience in community collaboration and partnerships.
  • Strong ability to manage, develop, mentor and motivate all employees; resolve disputes and address sensitive or controversial housing-related matters using tact and diplomacy; participate as an effective team member.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with the ability to compose and prepare memorandums, letters, reports, presentations, policy and procedures manuals, proposals and agendas.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills with an ability to build relationships with all stakeholders, including employees, clients, residents, funders, government, politicians and the public.
  • Skilled and experienced in systems, evidence-based practices, and software packages such as Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to operate related office equipment.
  • Knowledge of related Regional, Provincial, and Federal policies and legislation related to a non-profit housing corporation and/or related non-profit sectors.
