Villa Saint-Joseph du Lac, located in Yarmouth NS, is home to 79 long-term care Residents. We are a provincially funded, non-profit organization that provides 24/7 care. Villa Saint-Joseph has a strong interprofessional team and a new facility (opened in 2015) which allows us to promote a safe, clean, home-like environment for our Residents and care partners.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Director of Recreation to join our team at Villa Saint-Joseph du Lac. As a Recreation Therapist in this role, you will be responsible for assessing residents and creating goals based on their assessed needs while fostering a positive and collaborative environment for families, staff, and external partners. As the Recreation Director you will oversee Recreation staff, Spiritual Care and Volunteer Services including students while providing support with the planning and implementation of recreation services and interventions on an individual, small group and large group basis. You will be responsible for reviewing and understanding the NS LTC guidelines and ensuring the Recreation Department is meeting licensing requirements. You will work both independently and as part of the interprofessional team to provide the best level of care possible for our Residents. You will, at times, be required to provide feeding support to Residents who require assistance, practice risk mitigation while driving the bus on community outings, complete necessary documentation using the appropriate technology/applications, update and monitor social media and monitor and provide care to our Villa pets. This role requires attendance at various meetings to promote open communication and engagement between families, residents and the facility.

Qualifications:

• Degree in Therapeutic Recreation
• Certification through the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation
• Class 4 Driver's license (or willing to obtain as soon as possible)
• Current Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check
• Current Certification in First Aid/CPR (or willing to obtain)
• Food Handlers' Safety Course (or willing to obtain)
• Able to meet the physical, mental and emotional demands of the job
• Ability to follow Infection Control guidelines as needed (including wearing a mask for long periods of time)
• Leadership abilities and excellent communication skills
• Fluent in English (French/French Acadian is an asset)
• Previous work in long-term care is an asset
