Background:
The Halifax Mooseheads are a Major Junior Hockey team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Mooseheads are members of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. They won the Memorial Cup and President Cup in 2013 and have produced numerous NHL draft picks and stars.
Job Summary:
The Halifax Mooseheads are seeking a dedicated and certified Athletic Therapist to join our high-performance team for the upcoming season. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic therapy services to Moosehead players, focusing on injury prevention, immediate care, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries. Reporting to the General Manager, this role works in close collaboration with the coaching staff, strength and conditioning team, and medical professionals to ensure optimal player health and performance through the season and off-season periods.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide immediate care during practices and games (home and away)
- Design and implement rehab and injury prevention programs
- Maintain accurate documentation of injuries and treatments
- Coordinate with team medical staff and coaches regarding player status
- Manage and maintain training room equipment and supplies
- Support general player wellness and performance initiatives
- Stay current with the latest research and techniques in sports medicine
- Maintain all required certificates and licenses
- Weekend, evening and occasional holiday work is required
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Therapy, Kinesiology or related field (Master's preferred)
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications
- Current certification from the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA)
- Sport first Responder certification
- Multiple years of experience as an Athletic Therapist, preferably in hockey or high-performance sports
This is a 2-year contract position. The position is in-person at 259 Commodore Dr. Dartmouth, NS B3B 0M1. Minimum 30 hours per week, with weekend, evening and holiday work required.
