Established in 1789, King's College is Canada's oldest chartered university and is associated with Dalhousie University. A small and extraordinarily lively academic community located in Halifax (Kjipuktuk), Nova Scotia, King's is known nationally and internationally for its highly acclaimed interdisciplinary programs in the humanities, including its renowned Foundation Year Program, its professional programs in journalism, and its fine arts programs in creative writing. King's is a community where students, faculty, alumni, and staff work to bring greater understanding, creativity, and compassion to the world.

The Administrative Assistant is essential to the day-to-day functioning of the three upper-year humanities programs at King's: the Contemporary Studies Program (CSP), Early Modern Studies Program (EMSP), and History of Science and Technology (HOST) program. In addition to providing comprehensive administrative and clerical support for the programs, they serve as a key support in all matters relating to CSP, EMSP, and HOST.

The role of the Administrative Assistant is multifaceted as they are accountable for the oversight, management, and quality assurance of all policy, procedural, budgetary and human resources administrative matters in the programs, while also serving as the first point of contact with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will maintain multiple duties in the areas of academic planning, program administration, financial administration, personnel management, and other responsibilities for the programs (e.g., serving on university committees, supporting program events, etc.). Working under limited supervision of the three program directors, the Administrative Assistant will possess a strong work ethic and commitment to a high standard of excellence; a sense of initiative and confidence; leadership; and the ability to multitask and constantly re-prioritize.

The ideal candidate will have extensive administrative training and experience. A college or undergraduate degree in a relevant field will be considered an asset. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills are required. Knowledge of and proficiency in Office 365 (including Teams and SharePoint) and an aptitude for learning new software is required; experience working in a university program and experience with systems such as Banner, Navigator Suite, and Timetable Assistant would be considered assets. Possessing the ability to multitask and work effectively both independently and in a team environment is essential. Experience with payment of invoices and other financial transactions is required.

Closing Date: August 19, 2025

Salary will be commensurate with level of education and experience. The salary range for this position is: $48,990 to $56,519. A comprehensive group benefits package is offered including membership in the Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP).
