Jump Recruitment, on behalf of our confidential client, is seeking to fill an Owner/General Manager position to join an automotive mechanical repair company franchise opening in Corner Brook, NL.

Position Summary

The Owner/General Manager is responsible for the daily management, operational performance, financial results, and long-term growth of the automotive mechanical repair company. The candidate will purchase 10% ownership interest from the existing owner through a separate share purchase agreement. This is a working management position requiring a strong mechanical background, practical leadership experience, and the ability to oversee both shop operations and the broader business. The successful candidate will help emphasize customer experience, sales growth, team development, operational efficiency, and profitability.

In addition to employment responsibilities, the individual is expected to demonstrate an ownership mindset, contribute to business planning, protect the company's interests, and work collaboratively with the majority owner. The position combines hands-on operational leadership with business management and minority ownership, while maintaining a clear distinction between salary earned for work performed and financial rights arising from share ownership.

Key Responsibilities:

Overall Business Management

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the mechanical company, including shop activities, service delivery, staffing, scheduling, and customer commitments.
  • Establish operational priorities and implement processes that improve productivity, service quality, and profitability.
  • Work with the majority owner to establish annual business objectives, budgets, and growth plans.
  • Monitor business performance and recommend improvements to revenue, operating costs, and customer service.
  • Represent the company professionally with customers, suppliers, employees, and business partners.

Mechanical Operations and Technical Leadership

  • Apply practical mechanical experience to oversee diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and other technical services.
  • Provide hands-on technical assistance when required, particularly for complex jobs, troubleshooting, or training.
  • Supervise mechanics and service personnel to ensure work meets established quality and safety standards.
  • Coordinate workflow, job assignments, scheduling, labour utilization, and completion deadlines.
  • Ensure work orders, estimates, parts usage, labour hours, and customer invoices are accurately documented.
  • Maintain shop equipment, tools, facilities, and inventory in an efficient and safe condition.
  • Establish and enforce consistent service procedures and technical standards.

Financial Management and Profitability

  • Be accountable for day-to-day financial and operational performance within the approved budget and delegated authority.
  • Monitor revenue, labour costs, parts costs, gross margins, overhead, cash flow, and profitability.
  • Review financial statements and management reports with the bookkeeper, accountant, and majority owner.
  • Monitor technician productivity, billable hours, labour recovery, job costing, and pricing.
  • Oversee purchasing, inventory management, invoicing, accounts receivable follow-up, and cost control.
  • Prepare operating budgets and financial forecasts for review and approval.

Employee Management and Development

  • Recruit, onboard, train, supervise, and retain qualified employees.
  • Establish clear roles, performance expectations, and accountability standards.
  • Conduct performance reviews and address performance concerns appropriately.
  • Develop employees' technical skills, productivity, and professional capabilities.
  • Manage scheduling, attendance, workload allocation, and workforce planning.

Customer Relationships and Business Development

  • Maintain strong relationships with existing customers and develop new business opportunities.
  • Resolve customer complaints and service issues promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure estimates, service commitments, pricing, and delivery expectations are communicated clearly.
  • Build relationships with suppliers, contractors, fleet operators, and other relevant commercial partners.
  • Identify opportunities to expand service offerings, increase repeat business, and improve customer retention.
  • Support marketing, sales, and business development initiatives in collaboration with the majority owner.

Responsibilities as a 10% Shareholder

  • Act in the company's best interests and meet the legal obligations applicable to the individual's role as a shareholder and, if applicable, director or officer.
  • Participate in agreed business planning and shareholder discussions.
  • Contribute operational knowledge and business recommendations to support long-term growth.
  • Protect confidential business information, customer relationships, trade information, and company assets.
  • Maintain open communication with the majority owner regarding significant operational risks, financial concerns, and business opportunities.
  • Comply with the share purchase agreement, shareholders' agreement, corporate governing documents, and applicable law.
  • Respect the distinction between personal shareholder interests and the responsibilities of the General Manager position.
  • Support the long-term stability, reputation, and profitability of the company.

Qualifications:

  • Background in Automotive Mechanics- (Preferably Journeyman Red Seal), coupled with significant hands-on experience as a mechanic or mechanical technician, with strong diagnostic and repair capabilities.
  • Proven progressive experience in management, or considerations will be made for those with strong automotive experience and leadership potential, coupled with strong operational and sales management backgrounds- a combination of those qualities will be considered an asset.
  • Able and willing to contribute to a 10% Ownership opportunity for the franchise through a separate share purchase agreement. Specific financial details are to be discussed with shortlisted candidates being considered.
  • Experience supervising mechanics, managing shop operations, or leading a mechanical service team.
  • Strong understanding of service scheduling, labour productivity, inventory, parts purchasing, job costing, and customer service.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret financial and operational reports and make sound business decisions.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, workmanship, customer satisfaction, and employee development.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to accept accountability for business performance.
