CPA or CPA Candidate Required

Location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia - In Office
Schedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Salary: $55,000 - $80,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
Vacation: 2 weeks annual vacation plus Christmas holiday closure

The Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Controller to join our team in a full-time, in-office position. This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA or CPA candidate currently working toward their designation who has 2 - 3 years of progressive accounting experience and is ready to take greater ownership of the financial operations of a growing organization. The successful candidate will be hands-on, organized and comfortable working in a fast-paced business environment. You will work closely with senior leadership and play an important role in maintaining strong financial controls, timely reporting and accurate financial information to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities
The Controller will be responsible for a broad range of accounting and financial functions, including:

• Overseeing day-to-day accounting and financial operations
• Preparing monthly financial statements and management reports
• Managing month-end and year-end closing processes
• Maintaining the general ledger and ensuring account accuracy
• Preparing and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations
• Monitoring accounts receivable and accounts payable
• Managing cash flow and assisting with cash forecasting
• Supporting annual budgeting and financial forecasting
• Tracking actual results against budgets and identifying variances
• Maintaining appropriate internal financial controls and procedures
• Preparing information required for external accountants, auditors and financial institutions and supporting year-end audit/review processes
• Assisting with government remittances and financial compliance requirements
• Supporting additional accounting and administrative functions as required

Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:

• CPA designation or is actively pursuing their CPA designation
• Approximately 2 -3 years of progressive accounting experience
• Post-secondary education in accounting or finance or a related discipline
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Experience with month-end processes, reconciliations and financial statement preparation
• Strong Excel skills; experience with accounting software
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Professional communication skills
• Experience in project-based accounting or a multi-division business environment would be considered an asset
