Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

Reporting to the Academic Chair for the School of Applied Technology and Innovation, and working closely with the Systems Management & Security faculty and students to:

  • Provide students, faculty, and staff with highly specialized Tier 1 level IT support via phone, e-mail, and in-person.
  • You will record daily work activities using a departmental ticket management system, ensure accurate opening and closing of tickets, providing appropriate information that supports overall service analysis and long-term planning. You will provide first level technical support for service requests, analyzing potential solutions and risk. You will also troubleshoot user access to network accounts and perform some web administration for a web development sandbox. You will research sources/costs, order and maintain inventory of computer supplies for day-to-day usage, as well as providing primary technical support for smart classrooms and educational technology (including setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs).
  • You will perform printer maintenance in computer labs, load paper and toner, and perform basic printer repairs. You will manage the reservation, sign-out and return of portable specialized equipment, including cameras, tripods, and audio recording equipment, etc., based on availability. You will set up and connect video conferencing equipment and provide technical assistance as required.
  • You will also assist with the installation and maintenance of hardware and software in the department-operated computer labs and faculty computers. You will work to support a network and equipment used for educational purposes. You will configure and provide technical support for smartphones and tablets for Wi-Fi, etc.
  • While you will not be teaching concepts you will be working directly with students to reenforce the learning in the lab.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a diploma or degree in Information Technology, or a related field. Possessing one or more of the following certifications, would be considered an asset: Network+, A+, Security+, Microsoft MCP or RedHat (or similar Linux certifications)
  • This is an entry-level position. We welcome applications from recent graduates. Two years of occupational experience which includes planning, testing, troubleshooting stand-alone and networked (wired and wireless) computer systems or recognized equivalencies, would be considered an asset.
  • Occupational experience in one or more of the following areas would be considered an asset: Working with switches and routers, System deployments, troubleshooting (network/hardware)
  • You have experience in planning, testing, and troubleshooting networked computer systems.
  • Experience planning, testing and troubleshooting Audiovisual equipment.
  • Experience with mobile phones and computing devices.
  • You have experience with customer service and satisfaction-related field.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, Office 365, Windows, and PC platforms, basic networking and troubleshooting (Active Directory, TCP/IP), hardware repair and troubleshooting.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

  • You are known for your problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • You are a strong communicator. This role will require the successful candidate to work closely with both faculty and students.
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to coordinating services, work, events, such as hackathons and participating/setting up the team at conferences, and logistics, working with other staff and third parties.
  • You have strong project management skills so that you can independently manage maintenance and updating of hardware and software while supporting end users technical support.
  • You demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in communications within a team, customer service and ensuring fully functional labs and systems.
  • You are dedicated to life-long learning; technologies change constantly in our programs and the incumbent must be committed to keeping up-to-date with new versions of software and hardware, and emerging technologies and software.
