As Conrads continues to grow, the firm is investing in the strong systems, accurate financial information, and disciplined financial management needed to support its next stage of growth.

We are excited to partner with Conrads in the recruitment of a Controller to join their team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Reporting directly to the Owner, the Controller will take ownership of the firm's financial operations, including accounting and financial reporting, banking and cash management, taxation, budgeting, payroll, receivables, payables, and financial controls. This is a growth-oriented opportunity for a recently designated CPA who wants to develop a deep understanding of a growing business, work closely with its owner, and progress toward greater financial leadership responsibility over time.

Key responsibilities include:

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Lead the preparation, review and finalization of quarterly and annual financial statements, MD&A, press releases and the Annual Information Form.
  • Oversee property-level accounting across the company's office, hotel and residential assets, ensuring accuracy, consistency and compliance with IFRS.
  • Maintain accounting policies and documentation for significant judgment areas and lead technical accounting research for complex transactions.
  • Support business combinations, including business acquisition reports and purchase price allocations.

Valuation, Controls & Compliance

  • Oversee complex quarterly fair value analyses, including valuation methodologies, key assumptions, third-party valuations and related financial statement disclosures.
  • Oversee 52-109 internal controls over financial reporting and disclosure controls.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and respond to regulator, lender and investor reporting inquiries.

Leadership, Planning & Special Projects

  • Lead and mentor accounting and finance team members, with a focus on continuous improvement, efficiency and building a high-performing team.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual Board reporting.
  • Support corporate department budgets, the annual consolidated budget and business plan.
  • Lead various projects and contribute to other value-add initiatives across the organization.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A CPA designation, ideally recently obtained, with approximately 1-5 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, taxation, and financial controls.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and accountability.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial information into useful management reporting.
  • A highly organized and dependable approach, with the ability to take ownership of key financial processes.
  • An interest in understanding how a growing business operates and contributing to its continued growth.
  • Experience in a law firm or with trust accounting is considered an asset but is not required.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility within a growing firm, with the opportunity to expand your expertise and progress into a senior financial leadership role as the firm grows.
