Who we are:

The Government of New Brunswick is committed to responsible energy development, sustainability, and economic growth. The Department of Energy plays a key role in shaping provincial energy policy, including advancing New Brunswick`s interests in nuclear energy as part of a reliable, low-carbon energy mix. We are seeking a skilled Policy Analyst to support policy development, research, and strategic advice related to nuclear energy initiatives.

What you will do: As a Senior Policy Analyst, you will:

• Conduct research and analysis on nuclear energy policy, regulations, small modular reactors (SMRs), waste management, and related federal-provincial issues.
• Assist in evaluating the financial and commercial structures of nuclear projects and related partnerships.
• Prepare briefing notes, policy options, reports, and recommendations for senior management and elected officials.
• Monitor and analyze legislative, regulatory, and industry developments in nuclear energy at provincial, national, and international levels.
• Support engagement with industry, federal partners, the public, and Indigenous communities.
• Contribute to strategic planning and interdepartmental initiatives on energy security, clean energy transition, and economic opportunities linked to nuclear power.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

• A University degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Energy/Environmental Studies, Engineering, Law, or a related discipline; and a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively more responsible experience in policy analysis, research, or a related field.

OR

• A Master`s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Energy/Environmental Studies, Engineering, Law, or a related discipline; a minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience in policy analysis, research, or a related field.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability on your application.

Asset Qualifications:

• Experience with the energy sector and/or nuclear/regulatory experience.
• Experience/knowledge of the Canadian energy sector, nuclear policy/regulations, or government processes.
• Experience/knowledge of commercial nuclear project structures and nuclear financing mechanisms.

Salary: Pay Band 7 - $95,082 to $115,050 annually

Work environment:

• Office location: Chancery Place, 675 King Street, Fredericton, New Brunswick.
• Work hours: Monday to Friday / 8:15 to 4:30; 36.25 hours per week.
• Travel within and outside of the province as required, including overnight stays; working outside of the regular business hours on occasion.
• A hybrid work arrangement may be considered.
