The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Analyst, Procurement (Heavy Mobile Mining Equipment & Parts & Services) to join our Global Procurement team.
This is a permanent position with a global scope supporting Vale Base Metals operations in Canada, Brazil, and other international locations based in Toronto
Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Procurement, the Senior Analyst will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for heavy mobile mining equipment . This includes supporting procurement activities for off-road haul trucks, articulated trucks, excavators, loaders, drill rigs, infrastructure equipment, and associated parts, components, maintenance programs and related services.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in maximizing value across some of the organization's largest spend categories, establishing strategic supplier partnerships, managing contract performance, and ensuring cost-effective, sustainable procurement solutions that support operational excellence across the business.
About You
You are a strategic procurement professional with strong commercial acumen and experience managing large capital equipment categories. You possess exceptional negotiation and relationship management skills and thrive in a global, cross-functional environment where collaboration and value creation are critical to success.
You have a proven ability to manage complex supplier relationships, develop effective sourcing strategies, and deliver measurable financial and operational results while maintaining a strong focus on safety, sustainability, and business performance.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the development and execution of global sourcing and category strategies for Heavy Mobile Mining Equipment across Vale Base Metals operations.
- Manage strategic procurement activities for high-value categories including off-road haul trucks, articulated trucks, excavators, loaders, drill rigs, infrastructure equipment, and associated parts and services.
- Conduct market and supplier analysis to identify opportunities for cost optimization, operational efficiencies, innovation, and risk mitigation.
- Develop and execute negotiation strategies while leading commercial discussions with key suppliers to secure optimal pricing, terms, and service agreements.
- Build and maintain strategic supplier partnerships that support long-term business objectives and enhance supply reliability.
- Manage the full contract lifecycle, including commercial administration, performance monitoring, and governance of multi-site and multi-user agreements.
- Analyze Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models and equipment lifecycle costs to support data-driven sourcing decisions.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and Supply Chain stakeholders to align procurement strategies with business requirements.
- Support sustainability, responsible sourcing, and supplier performance initiatives while ensuring compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
- Drive value creation initiatives across assigned categories while managing procurement spend exceeding USD $250M annually.
- Work collaboratively with regional and global procurement teams to leverage best practices, supplier intelligence, and category synergies across Vale Base Metals operations.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks while ensuring the availability of critical equipment and services that support mining operations globally.
Experience
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, or Category Management.
- Experience managing heavy mobile mining equipment, OTR tires, industrial capital equipment, or related categories.
- Proven experience leading complex negotiations and supplier management activities.
- Experience developing and executing category strategies within a global or multi-site environment.
- Experience managing large commercial contracts and strategic supplier relationships.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, Commerce, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Professional procurement designation (SCMP, CPSM, CIPS, or equivalent) is considered an asset.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong strategic sourcing and category management capabilities.
- Advanced contract negotiation and commercial management skills.
- Strong understanding of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) principles.
- Knowledge of equipment acquisition, lifecycle costing, freight, logistics, duties, and taxation considerations.
- Strong analytical and financial evaluation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across diverse geographic regions.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management abilities.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong business acumen with a results-driven mindset.
- Advanced English proficiency required. Portuguese and/or French considered an asset.
