The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Safety Trainer to join our People & Community Department in Voisey's Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation.

This permanent position will be on a 2 week on/2 week off rotation working at the mine site.

The Safety Trainer will lead the delivery of all safety training for the business, based on site specific requirements, and the expectations of the Vale Base Metals Health and Safety business unit, and provincial/federal legislation. By ensuring effective delivery of safety training programs for the operation, the Safety Trainer is integral in supporting the development of employee knowledge and skills which are vital to sound risk management in daily work activities. The Safety Trainer will also support in field training for various HEO equipment, maintenance training, and support the various training plans for the surface operations.

Additionally, in this position you will:

• Deliver safety training to all site personnel, including applicable orientation programs, company specific training and regulatory training.
• Assist in the development, review and revision of safety training programs.
• Provide field instruction and competency evaluations as necessary to support applicable training programs.
• Liaise with operational departments to optimize delivery of training, maximizing values of time and resources.
• Maintain required trainer certifications necessary to deliver safety training programs.
• Keep current with legislation and industry best practice in support of safety training program continuous improvement.
• Provide feedback as necessary, to respective departments, on individual performance noted during the delivery of safety training programs.
• Provide advice and support in the field as necessary to support the implementation of safety, maintenance, and heavy equipment training programs where practical instruction is necessary to support classroom theory.

About You

Education:

• A minimum of post-secondary education within Health & Safety or a related journeyperson trades program is required.
• Preferred certifications in the following: WorkplaceNL certified in Fall Protection, Confined Space, Power Line Hazards, Supervisor Health & Safety, Occupational Health and Safety Committee, and St. John's Ambulance First Aid.

Experience:

• A minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role.

Skills:

• Demonstrate leadership skills and abilities.
• Strong presentation, oral, and written communication skills.
• Familiar with provincial regulations.
• Extensive knowledge of heavy equipment/maintenance training within the mining industry.
• Excellent problem solving and computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
• Safety oriented and respect for all cultural diversity.
• Work with minimum supervision.
