About Us
NL Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for delivering health and community services to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador across five geographical areas. Our Digital Health team supports the province's Epic Health Information System, working to ensure clinicians and staff across the province have reliable, secure access to the tools they need to deliver care.
About the Role
We are currently looking to hire permanent full-time Security Coordinator position(s) to work in Digital Health. Reporting to Management, you will be responsible for the following:
- Provision and maintain Epic application security levels, roles, and templates, establishing ownership for each security class.
- Coordinate the Epic security template and role change control process, including Change Advisory Board submissions.
- Create and maintain Epic user records and shared security classifications.
- Coordinate security-related activity across infrastructure, application, and compliance teams.
- Conduct periodic access audits and recertification reviews, and lead root-cause analysis for Epic security incidents.
- Participate in Threat Risk Assessments (TRAs) and support Vulnerability Assessments (VAs)/penetration testing where they intersect with the Epic environment.
- Provide security advice and guidance to IT staff and management on matters affecting Epic and connected systems.
- Participate in audit initiatives and enterprise security planning discussions.
About You
Your education and experience include:
- Graduation from a recognized university with a Computer Science degree, or a bachelor's degree supplemented by a recognized graduate diploma in Information Technology (minimum 1 year), or a 3-year Information Technology diploma from a recognized technical college is required.
- A minimum of seven years' progressively responsible experience within the last ten years in security or identity/access administration is required.
- Epic Security Coordinator training and certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- You have the following skills and abilities:
- Strong understanding of confidentiality, data security, and access-control concepts.
- Sound judgment in balancing operational access needs against security and privacy risk.
- Ability to communicate complex security concepts clearly to both technical and clinical stakeholders.
- Comfort operating within a formal change-management process.
- Ability to remain calm and methodical when responding to time-sensitive security incidents.
It would be an asset if you have:
- CISSP, CISM, or other recognized security designations.
- Exposure to scripting tools such as PowerShell, Python, or KQL.
- Experience with TRAs, VAs, or penetration testing.
- Experience working within a change-controlled production environment (e.g., ITIL-aligned change management).
Demonstrated equivalencies may be considered.
