Job Summary
This position works within the Nurse Practitioner's (NP) scope in the Adult or Family/All Ages stream of practice. This is an advanced category of practice providing professional, analytical and an autonomous comprehensive range of health services to clients and patients including but not limited to health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, injuries, and conditions; treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses and identifying health risks and needs within a holistic model.
The successful candidate would be responsible for the Pre- and Post- operative care of General Surgery patients at Carbonear General Hospital. Candidates will be required to interact in a team environment with physicians, nursing, social work, physiotherapy, dietician, surgeons, residents/clinical clerks etc. Duties will be inpatient floor based and may involve emergency consults and clinic assessments as required.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with General Surgeons and will focus on the treatment, recovery, and discharge of the patients within the Surgical Services Program. The incumbent will aim to facilitate early hospital discharges, reduce hospital admissions' length of stay and provide continuity of care.

Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs. and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books, supplies. Occasionally, may have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs.
Physical effort also includes regular sitting to conduct patient histories, performing work on the computer and when assessing patients, regularly stands or walks.
When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e. medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, dopplers, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer.
Job Qualifications
Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Nurses (NLCN) and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner (Family/All Ages or Adult) with the NLCN.
A minimum of five years clinical experience within the last seven years working in surgical services is required.
Current BCLS Certification is required
Current certification in ACLS is required.
