About Us

As part of the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, the Digital Health division provides quality information to health professionals, the public, researchers, and health system decision makers. Through collaboration with the health system, we support the development of data and technical standards,?maintain?key health databases, carry out analytics and evaluation, and support health research. We support healthcare within Newfoundland and Labrador, including patients and communities,?through the delivery of information technology (IT) and digital health services applied?in?the healthcare system to provide quality care. Our mandate includes the development and implementation of a confidential and secure provincial electronic health record as well as other provincial clinical information programs, including the change management required to support adoption by end user clinicians.?

Following the successful provincial go-live of the Health Information System (HIS) powered by Epic, NL Health Services is transitioning to a sustained operational model focused on stabilizing,?maintaining, and continuously improving the system. This next phase?builds on?the foundation?established?during implementation and shifts the focus to supporting day-to-day operations, ensuring system reliability, and enabling ongoing enhancement in support of clinical and business needs.?

In the operational state, Digital Health teams play a key role in maintaining, supporting, and continuously improving the HIS. This includes collaborating with clinical, operational, and technical partners to address emerging needs, resolve issues, support quality improvement initiatives, and identify opportunities to optimize workflows, user experience, and patient outcomes.
To support this transition, NLHS continues to build and strengthen its Digital Health workforce across clinical informatics, information technology, analytics, and change enablement. These roles are essential to sustaining system performance, advancing continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring the HIS evolves in alignment with organizational priorities and provincial healthcare needs.

About the Role

Reporting to the CorCare Training Manager, the Training Specialist (CorCare Principal Trainer - Patient Access, HIM, HB) supports the development, delivery, maintenance, and continuous improvement of role-based CorCare (Epic) training across NL Health Services. The role applies clinical practice, adult education, workflow, and Health Information System knowledge to assess training needs, develop and maintain learning materials, support the training environment, and provide high-quality education and workflow support as CorCare evolves.

The Training Specialist (CorCare Principal Trainer - Patient Access, HIM, HB) works at the intersection of clinical workflows, education, system functionality, and end-user support. The role helps translate operational and clinical workflow needs into targeted training materials, accurate training environment build, practical learning supports, and ongoing education that enables safe, effective, and consistent use of CorCare across clinical programs and practice settings.

The Training Specialist (CorCare Principal Trainer - Patient Access, HIM, HB) collaborates with end users, program managers, clinical leaders, application support teams, information systems staff, vendors, and provincial stakeholders to support training effectiveness, resolve issues, identify improvement opportunities, and strengthen adoption of CorCare workflows. The role serves as a subject matter expert for assigned clinical applications and workflows and facilitates feedback and communication among end users, management, and regional and provincial stakeholder groups.

This role requires:

  • Ability to participate/accommodate shift work (Evening/Weekends/Nights) as necessary.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call application support rotation, if needed.
  • Ability to be able to travel as required for provincial team collaboration activities and site visits.


Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Develop proficiency in CorCare (Epic), the provincial Health Information System, including assigned role-specific workflows, to deliver high-quality, targeted training.
  • Conduct training needs assessments and develop, update, and maintain role-based training materials as workflows evolve and CorCare updates and upgrades are implemented.
  • Deliver CorCare training sessions and provide ongoing education and workflow support to users across a variety of clinical programs and practice settings.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned clinical applications and workflows within CorCare.
  • Build, test, and maintain the CorCare training environment to support effective learning and accurate workflow simulation.
  • Create and maintain HIS training resources, including quick reference guides, FAQs, training videos, and other end-user supports.
  • Train and/or credential additional trainers, super users, and at-the-elbow support staff.
  • Maintain and update curricula, enrolments, learning activities, and related training records within the LEARN Learning Management System.
  • Develop, produce, and maintain asynchronous training content using video and eLearning authoring tools such as Camtasia, Articulate, and related platforms.
  • Support training operations by responding to ServiceNow CorCare incidents and training-related support requests.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that support effective use of clinical applications across the health system.
  • Consult with end users, program managers, information systems staff, application support teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to evaluate CorCare training effectiveness, identify opportunities for improvement, resolve issues, meet identified needs, and improve efficiencies.

About You?

Your education and experience include:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Records Management, Business Administration or Information Management is required.
  • Courses and proficiency in MS office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio), Internet and various other computer applications are required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience within the last four (4) years in health records quality and/or quality assurance/improvement is required.
  • Willingness to acquire Epic Accreditation/Certification; prerequisites, participate in Epic training/education sessions, complete self-assessments and successfully challenge the certification exam is required.
  • You have the following skills and abilities:
  • Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and deliver clear, role-based training materials and end-user supports.
  • Ability to assess training needs, support adult learning, and adapt education approaches for diverse clinical users and practice settings.
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows and the ability to translate workflow requirements into practical training solutions.
  • Ability to build, test, and maintain training environments and resources that accurately support workflow simulation.
  • Ability to coach, train, and credential trainers, super users, and at-the-elbow support staff.
  • Ability to respond constructively to support requests, incidents, feedback, and workflow questions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with end users, managers, application support teams, vendors, and regional and provincial stakeholders.
