The Accounting Specialist serves as a senior member and technical resource within the Finance team, playing a key role in the delivery of accurate and compliant financial information. Participates in the coordination of the preparation of corporate, regulatory, and segregated fund financial statements, this individual performs complex analyses, supports audit activities, and ensures the implementation of IFRS accounting standards and regulatory requirements. In addition, the Accounting Specialist leads strategic projects, provides technical guidance to team members, and supports decision-making through deep accounting expertise and strong technical leadership.
- Participate in the coordination of the quarterly and annual preparation of corporate, regulatory, and segregated fund financial statements.
- Serve as a technical accounting expert by guiding team members, resolving complex accounting issues, and promoting best practices across the organization.
- Perform in-depth financial analyses and provide insights and recommendations to support management decision-making.
- Participate in the coordination of the annual audit activities and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Analyze and implement new IFRS accounting standards and regulatory requirements to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Lead strategic projects involving process improvements, financial systems enhancements, and the implementation of new internal controls.
- Design, maintain, and evaluate financial controls to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial information.
To be successful in this role, the incumbent should possess the following qualifications:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required. Significant experience in a similar role is considered a strong asset.
- Extensive knowledge of financial accounting, including hands-on experience with IFRS standards. Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FCNB, OSFI, AMF, CLHIA) is considered an asset;
- Comprehensive understanding of the full accounting cycle and the financial information systems that support it;
- Advanced proficiency in Excel for the analysis, preparation, and validation of complex financial data and reports;
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess the impact on the business of accounting and regulatory changes and recommend best practices;
- Bilingualism required (French and English, both written and spoken);
- Demonstrated expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of financial controls, as well as continuous process improvement;
- roven leadership abilities, including mentoring colleagues, coordinating projects, and serving as a technical resource for the team;
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively support Management in decision-making;
- Knowledge of the insurance industry and its unique accounting requirements is considered an asset.
