Operator, CNG - Eastward Energy, Dartmouth

What You Will Do:

As an Operator, CNG you will play an essential role within our Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) team, by supporting the operation and maintenance of the CNG Facility, located in Goffs (Aerotech Business Park), Nova Scotia. This position reports to the Manager, CNG & Facilities. In this position, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor & maintain the safe operation of a 709kW compressed natural gas facility, consisting of 5 reciprocating compressors.
  • Monitoring customer gas supply requirements and responding to customer requests.
  • Liaising with contracted transportation companies to coordinate customer gas deliveries.
  • Working a 24/7/365 rotating schedule, consisting of 12-hour Day & Night shifts including weekends and holidays, and followed by equal time off: 2 Days/2 Nights/4 Off. Includes night shift premium and paid overtime for holidays.
  • Participating in a paid on-call rotation aligned to assigned shift schedule.
  • Performing general facility maintenance and upkeep, including lawn care and snow clearing.
  • Communicating with and monitoring the work of sub-contractors.
  • Following all site safety protocols, policies, and procedures to help maintain a safe working environment.

What You Will Need to Succeed:

This position has the following occupational requirements:

  • Must have valid 4th Class Power Engineer (Red Seal) certification or a Nova Scotia Compressor Plant Operator License.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license and the ability to take a company vehicle home while on-call and to drive between the plant and customer locations.
  • Availability when on-call to respond in-person to the CNG Facility within 1 hour.
  • An understanding of, and commitment to following all applicable industry regulations, including Power Engineer, Boiler & Pressure Equipment, and Fuel Safety standards.
  • Availability for scheduled overtime shifts and occasional emergency call-ins, based on operational needs.
  • Comfortable working alone and independently for extended periods, while staying connected and contributing as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to stay calm and safety focused in high pressure situations.
  • Availability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call schedule.

To excel in this position, candidates may also bring the following skills and qualifications:

  • Experience working with or around natural gas is considered a strong asset.
  • Physical capability to walk, climb stairs, navigate uneven terrain and lift, pull, or push up to 50 lbs.
  • An analytical mindset with an interest in solving operational challenges.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • A detail-orientated and organized approach to work, with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Enjoy working in both office and field environments.
  • A sense of initiative and self-management, with a proactive approach to planning and completing tasks.
