Class 1 Shunt Driver

Job Title: Class 1 Shunt Driver
Location: Bedford, NS
Shift/Hours: Monday to Friday
Pay Rate: $27.00 per hour

The Class 1 Shunt Driver will be responsible for moving, positioning, and spotting trailers within the yard and facility grounds. This role involves safely maneuvering trailers to designated dock doors, hooking and unhooking trailers, supporting loading and unloading when required, and following all site safety procedures.

This position requires someone who is reliable, safety-focused, and comfortable working in a yard environment as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

• Perform yard shunting, including moving and spotting trailers at designated dock doors
• Safely maneuver trailers within the yard and facility grounds
• Hook, unhook, and position trailers as required for daily operations
• Assist with loading and unloading product when required
• Complete basic vehicle and equipment checks as required
• Follow company safety procedures and site-specific regulations
• Communicate professionally with team members, supervisors, and site personnel
• Maintain awareness of yard activity, pedestrians, equipment, and dock traffic
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Valid Class 1 driver's licence required
• Minimum 2 years of verifiable driving experience
• Current driver's abstract dated within the last 30 days required
• Previous shunting or yard driving experience considered an asset
• Comfortable backing up, maneuvering, and positioning trailers safely
• Strong reliability, punctuality, and teamwork skills
• Safety-focused with strong attention to detail
• Able to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced yard environment
• Professional and dependable attitude
