About the Role:

The Occupational Therapist II is an integral member of the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment Team (FACT) that provides intensive mobile services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and concurrent related complexities of mental health issues/disorders. This is an advanced clinical position involving a high degree of responsibility, autonomy and independence. Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, the position is responsible for providing comprehensive client assessments and support to individuals in establishing personal recovery plans as well as short and long-term goals.

The Occupational Therapist II is responsible for the development, organization and implementation of vocational and career development strategies, assessing overall client functioning and implementing strategies to improve functioning in activities of daily living. The Occupational Therapist II will be responsible for overseeing the home support services provided to clients of the FACT Team and will consult and work in partnership with local employers, service providers and community agencies in the provision of service to clients on the FACT team. The incumbent will also be responsible to provide clinical supervision and mentorship to Clinical Occupational Therapists and students as required.

While the primary function of this position is to support operations of the FACT team, the Occupational Therapist II may be involved in assessment, treatment, follow up and support of individuals with mental health and addictions needs throughout various mental health and addictions programs and services.

Job Qualifications:

These qualifications would normally be acquired through successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
Current registration with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists, the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board and the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapists is required. Travel throughout the region is required.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years working as a Clinical Occupational Therapist in adult mental health or addictions is required.
Knowledge of current occupational therapy, mental health assessment and intervention techniques; proven ability in providing counseling and education to mental health clients and their families.
knowledge of mental illness and addictions from bio-psycho-social perspectives, holistic and community approaches.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential as well as the ability to work in the community within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
