JOB PURPOSE

As a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides quality patient care within the scope of professional nursing practice to patients and families in the Emergency Department in accordance with the Emergency Department Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active registration with Nurses Association of New Brunswick.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience or equivalent of acute care medical/surgical nursing experience within the past 5 years OR completion of the Critical Care Course.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the competencies of BCLS, ACLS, Emergency Paediatric Nursing (ENPC), Trauma Nursing (TNCC), ED Advanced Nursing Competencies (ANCs) and Basic 12 Lead ECG interpretation as demonstrated by certification and/or written and practical testing. If not certified willing to acquire certification at earliest opportunity.
  • Certification to perform and Adult 12-Lead and 15-Lead Electrocardiogram.
  • Certification in Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS).
  • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI).
  • Demonstrated assessment skills and ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to emergency situations, rapidly changing priorities and complex patient care needs.
  • Demonstrated teaching, communication, interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Good work record and ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responds to emergency situations and rapidly changing priorities of complex patients.
  • Prioritizes care of patients' dependant on needs
  • Completes annual ANC's
  • Maintains Certifications pertinent to the ED setting - TNCC, ACLS, BCLS, ENPC, PALS
  • Transfer of patients who require higher level of care to another acute care facility
  • Maintains strict confidentiality as per HHN Confidentiality Agreement
