Who we are:

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) plays a pivotal role in advancing educational and operational excellence in New Brunswick through strategic digital transformation in both the anglophone and francophone educational sectors. Within the IT Strategy & Business Solutions (ITSBS) Branch, the Enterprise Strategist leads the development, governance, and execution of a comprehensive enterprise architecture strategy supporting K-12 education and Early Childhood Development across New Brunswick.

The ITSBS Branch operates in a complex environment. It aligns provincial IT systems, district needs, digital learning tools, cybersecurity, and service delivery relationships with the department's strategic priorities.

What you will do:

As Enterprise Strategist, you will provide strategic leadership, enterprise architecture governance, and expert advisory support for technology decisions that affect schools, districts, departmental programs, and government partners. Primary responsibilities include:

• Align educational priorities with enterprise IT strategy by collaborating with departmental leadership, school districts, educators, business areas, and technical experts.
• Develop architecture models, roadmaps, and target-state views for core education platforms, digital services, infrastructure, devices, and collaboration tools.
• Promote consistent, efficient, and student-centred technology approaches across instructional, administrative, and technical domains.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements that support teaching, learning, accessibility, privacy, cybersecurity, and operational effectiveness.
• Provide strategic and technical input into procurements, RFP evaluations, vendor assessments, business cases, and investment recommendations.
• Establish and maintain enterprise architecture practices, standards, principles, reference architectures, governance models, and architecture repositories.
• Lead architecture reviews and decision-making processes that assess alignment, interoperability, risk, duplication, sustainability, total cost of ownership, and return on investment.
• Advise stakeholders, maintain the technology portfolio, support major issue resolution, and develop long-term plans that advance digital equity, modernization, cybersecurity, data governance, and reliable technology-enabled learning.

Who you are:

You are a strategic, enterprise-minded technology leader who can translate educational priorities into practical, secure, scalable, and cost-effective technology strategies. You are comfortable operating in complex governance environments, balancing provincial consistency with district realities, and communicating architecture decisions in a way that builds confidence with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You bring strong judgment, collaborative leadership, and a deep understanding of how technology decisions affect learners, educators, families, administrators, and public-sector partners across the province.

Need to Have:

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, business administration, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of five years of related experience in enterprise architecture, technology strategy, IT governance, digital transformation, application portfolio management, infrastructure planning, or large-scale technology modernization.
• Experience developing strategic technology roadmaps, architecture standards, governance models, business cases, or investment recommendations for complex organizations.
• Experience assessing technology solutions for strategic alignment, interoperability, security, privacy, cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and user impact.

Nice to Have:

• Experience in the K-12 education sector, school district environments, public-sector service delivery, or learning technology ecosystems.
• Certification or formal training in enterprise architecture or project management, such as TOGAF or PMP.
• Knowledge of privacy, data protection, accessibility, inclusive education, and digital governance considerations in public education environments.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Salary:

Pay Band 6: $78,546 - $104,494 annually

Work environment:

• Office location: Place 2000, 250 King Street, Fredericton or Remote in New Brunswick
• Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15 - 4:30
