MCA Consultants is a multidisciplinary mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firm with offices in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. With an established client base and extensive project work in the region, MCA Consultants is now investing in a dedicated local Electrical team to better support its Nova Scotia partnerships.
This is a rare opportunity for an engineering leader to take ownership of MCA Consultants' growing electrical engineering portfolio in Nova Scotia. As Director of Electrical Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the firm's regional growth strategy, developing client relationships, and building a high-performing team to support an expanding Nova Scotia project portfolio.

With a team of nearly 60 engineers, designers, technologists, and support professionals, MCA Consultants delivers practical, innovative, and cost-effective engineering and project management solutions to clients throughout Atlantic Canada. Their electrical engineering team designs building systems for educational, healthcare, recreational, residential, commercial, pharmaceutical, food-processing, and industrial facilities, as well as municipal infrastructure projects including underground electrical distribution, street lighting, and pumping stations. Their services include electrical power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, fire alarm, security, structured cabling, audiovisual systems, emergency power generation, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and photovoltaic (solar) systems, and industrial instrumentation and control cabling.
Their projects typically begin in conceptual or preliminary design and continue through detailed design, tendering, contract administration, and construction support. MCA Consultants works closely with architects, developers, building owners, and municipal, provincial and federal government agencies to deliver successful projects throughout Atlantic Canada.
Role Description
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality building services design while also helping to expand MCA's existing footprint in Halifax. This role offers a combination of technical leadership, client engagement, and business development, with a strong emphasis on relationship-building and project delivery. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of MCA Consultants' local electrical engineering portfolio and contribute directly to the firm's continued growth throughout Nova Scotia.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Design electrical systems for commercial, institutional, multi-residential, and industrial projects.
  • Lead projects from concept through construction, ensuring quality, efficiency, schedule adherence, and budget performance.
  • Prepare and review design drawings, specifications, technical reports, and system analyses, including load calculations and equipment selection.
  • Conduct site visits, attend project meetings, and liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including CAD Technicians and junior staff.
  • Review shop drawings and support contract administration during construction.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, recruitment support, workforce planning, and professional development for the Nova Scotia electrical engineering team.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, business growth, and MCA Consultants' presence within the engineering, development, and construction communities across Nova Scotia.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation.


Your Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a technically proficient and relationship-oriented Electrical Engineer who is energized by the opportunity to help lead the continued growth of MCA's Electrical Engineering practice in Nova Scotia.
Your qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a P.Eng. with Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • Extensive experience in electrical building systems design.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards (Canadian Electrical Code, National Building Code).
  • Experience with power distribution, lighting systems, and fire alarm design (power generation experience is an asset).
  • Proven ability to manage projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build lasting client relationships.
  • Self-driven, adaptable, and capable of working independently in a flexible environment.
  • Interest in business development and leadership is considered a strong asset.
