We are currently searching for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at our St. John's Terminal. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, he/she is responsible to provide maintenance to ground equipment which requires preventative maintenance, troubleshooting repairs and/or modifications.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Repairs, modifies and performs preventative maintenance inspections; troubleshoots fleet and ground support equipment;
- Checks equipment for proper performance and inspects equipment to detect faults and malfunctions;
- Diagnoses source of trouble, disassembles equipment and performs necessary adjustments and repairs to ensure fleet and equipment are maintained in a safe, reliable and cost effective manner;
- Prepares parts and supplies list for the Clerk to order as required to repair equipment;
- Assumes primary responsibility for completion of project work and reliability of work performed (goods for parts);
- Adjusts equipment and repairs or replaces defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools. Maintains a clean and safe work area and is responsible for shop equipment in accordance with local laws and corporate standards;
- Tests repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets operations' specifications. Cleans, lubricates and performs other routine maintenance work on equipment;
- Performs field work and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of a 3-5-year apprenticeship program;
- Applicable licences or vocational training;
- 3 to 5 years of experience in vehicle maintenance.
Skills
- Working knowledge of the utilization and operation of all automotive equipment and testing equipment, gauges and tools normally associated with the troubleshooting and repair of gasoline, diesel and propane automotive equipment;
- Possession of a complete set of hand tools including metric sizes;
- Ability to work under minimum supervision for extended periods of time;
- Lift and makeover heavy vehicle components up to 50 lbs.
