The Senior Visual Designer supports the Humanitarian Services unit, with a focus on general and recovery-related products. The role will be responsible for working with executive and senior leaders to develop a range of products for internal and external audiences. The role requires a creative person, experience working in graphic design and who is comfortable with a high degree of working under pressure.

In this role, you will :

  • Conceptualize, design and layout, from concept to production: presentations, documents, pitches, proposals, marketing pieces in digital and print, including but not limited to: infographics, illustrations, diagrams, charts, wayfinding signs, banners, information sheets, forms, reports, booklets, posters, etc.
  • Maintain high standards of visual design quality and consistency across all projects, adhering to existing guidelines and best practices.
  • Establish and communicate the creative vision for visual design projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and user needs.
  • Optimize designs for accessibility according to AODA and WCAG guidelines as well as equality of English and French editions.
  • Ensure files are web and print production ready and adhere to production specifications including page setup, margins, bleed and binding.
  • Organize and archive project files according to team established standards.
  • Estimate time and resources required to complete concept, design and layout work, and advise on work back schedules.
  • Present design concepts and drafts to senior stakeholders, responding to feedback and making necessary adjustments to achieve consensus.

What we are looking for :

  • Qualifications include a minimum of 6-9 years experience and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in graphic design, visual arts, or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications or designations may be necessary depending on legal or regulatory requirements (i.e. designing interfaces that are usable by people with disabilities, adhering to accessibility guidelines (WCAG)).
  • Requires expertise in a specialized discipline or broad experience across fields, along with an understanding of interconnections between processes and business units.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite across platforms (print, web, mobile, tablet), especially Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Photoshop.
  • Advanced skills in layout design, creating style guides and design system components, typography, colour palette & brand aligned designs, imagery, iconography, and interaction design.
  • Communication and influence skills to gather perspectives, understand needs, and present information to reach consensus, often in somewhat sensitive situations.
  • Fluency in English is required, French is an asset.

Working Conditions :

  • The majority of work will be conducted from a home-office or office-like setting.
  • Requires significant attention to detail and concentration and ability to mentally process large amounts of information.
  • Work requires the ability to work to multiple, conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent and often urgent changes in priorities, and make decisions under pressure, work at an unpredictable pace.
  • May require travel to safe locations; limited exposure to adverse conditions.
