Job Summary
The Media Relations Manager is the organization's primary point of contact for the media. The Media Relations Manager coordinates requests for information from media, proactively engages media, and manages daily media monitoring and analysis activities. The Media Relations Manager plays a key role in crisis communications planning and issues management. The Manager writes a variety of communications materials, including news releases, media statements, social media and web content, and is proactive with sharing NL Health Services' news. The Media Relations Manager understands and appreciates the role of the media, and develops positive relationships with media on a local, provincial, and national level.

The Media Relations Manager has experience in managing complex communications issues and leading projects and large-scale public and corporate events. The manager is an expert writer who has the ability to grasp complex medical and technical information and communicate it in an easy-to-understand manner. They work with sensitive information and must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and be confident in providing strategic communications advice to executive, senior management, physician leaders and other staff. This position reports directly to the executive lead for communications and works closely with members of the communications team.

Job Qualifications
Education
Successful completion of a university degree in public relations, journalism or communications is required.

Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the communications/public and media relations field is required.
Considerable experience in media relations, issues management and social media is required.
Considerable management experience is preferred.

Demonstrates superior writing and interpersonal communication skills which are fundamental to the position.
Demonstrates ability to lead work independently, multi-task, work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and adapt to changing needs.
Demonstrates ability to establish positive and productive working relationships with diverse groups of journalists, staff, clients, and other health agencies.
Possesses solid analytical experience and skills as a strategic thinker.
Demonstrates ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
The manager acts with integrity, possesses good judgement and exemplifies NL Health Services' corporate values.

Other
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
The ability to work outside of regular working hours and the ability to travel to other sites is required.
