Moosehead is recruiting a Cost Accountant to join its Finance Team. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Financial Reporting and Operations, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the financial performance of our manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for maintaining inventory costing, analyzing production costs, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and providing financial insights that help drive operational decision-making.
The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and enjoys working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to improve processes and identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Maintain and forecast the inventory costing system, ensuring accurate product costs and inventory valuation
- Analyze manufacturing costs, production variances, and inventory trends, providing recommendations to improve financial performance
- Prepare monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses
- Support internal and external financial reporting requirements, including year-end audit activities
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Procurement to improve costing accuracy and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Monitor and analyze inventory movements and assist with physical inventory counts and reconciliations
- Participate in process improvement initiatives that strengthen financial controls and operational efficiency
- Perform other accounting and financial analysis duties as required.
- CPA designation, or be actively pursuing a CPA designation
- 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial analysis
- Experience supporting year-end audits
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (experience with Business Central is considered an asset)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization
