The EMIS Data Specialist supports data management for service delivery, data integrity and reporting capabilities within EMIS.
This position is responsible for maintaining accurate and compliant databases, monitoring and maintaining data quality,
identifying irregularities or trends that impact service delivery, and processing files that enable digital service delivery. The role
provides advice and guidance on data management in EMIS, responds to data-related queries, and supports the development of reports and analysis. The EMIS Data Specialist works closely with various teams within the organization to ensure strong data management practices are applied consistently and in alignment to service delivery needs.
In this role, you will :
- Implement data management solutions with a focus on the quality of EMIS data and the delivery of financial assistance
programs in a way that mitigates risk and meets operational expectations. - Provide input into data management standards and practices that ensure consistency, quality, and reusability across events.
- Support the processing of mass financial assistance programs, applying organizational standards and practices and ensuring accuracy, timeliness and quality.
- Contribute to the identification and mitigation of data risks with a focus on preventing fraudulent access to financial assistance.
- Contribute to the implementation of data governance practices, promoting data quality, integrity, and responsible use.
- Recommend improvements to data tools, processes, and methodologies based on feedback and experience.
- Collaborate and build relationships with internal teams to collect and document data requirements.
- Apply analytical tools, skills and processes to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform operational planning and service improvements.
- Clean and preprocess data to ensure accuracy, consistency and perform quality checks on data integrity.
- Generate reports and visualizations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, including identifying opportunities to improve data processes, quality and
efficiency. - Carry out data activities based on documented standards and procedures.
What we are looking for:
- Qualifications include a minimum of 4-7 years experience and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in data science, computer science, social services, community development or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and database systems.
- Proficiency in Excel (e.g., macros, VBA, functions, pivot tables, formulas and charts).
- Experience in data management techniques and software.
- Ability to identify patterns and trends in data.
- Ability to assess accuracy and reliability of data.
- Familiarity with data management concepts, including data quality, data cleaning, standardization, and privacy.
- Communication skills, diplomacy and empathy to interpret information and deliver advice, clarify client or stakeholder needs, offer solutions, and resolve escalations in new or somewhat sensitive situations.
- Ability to identify, investigate and analyze problems, identify root causes and risks, and apply technical, functional and
organizational knowledge to develop solutions. - Ability to understand and ensure work is completed in compliance with applicable data and privacy policy and legislation.
- This position is required to be part of on call rotation and would work, at times, weekends and untraditional hours.
