About Us

Book Bar is a bookstore and bar rooted in curated connection-a space where great stories and great drinks live side by side. We're not just a shop or a bar-we're a welcoming, layered "third place" that invites people to linger, discover, and converse.

By day, we offer a cozy haven for readers and the book-curious. By night, we transform into a lively, character-filled space for connection and community. Whether a guest is here to browse our shelves or sip a glass of wine, we aim to make them feel at home.

Position Overview

As a Bartender at Book Bar, you'll help shape a distinct, thoughtful guest experience. You'll prepare cocktails, pour local wines and beers, brew espresso, and set the tone for meaningful social connections. You'll balance speed and precision with character and ease-crafting a sense of place for everyone who walks in the door.

You'll also play a role in the literary culture of the space: engaging guests in bookish conversation, supporting in-store events, and embodying the spirit of a place where books are meant to be shared. This is a role for someone who leads with curiosity, warmth, and a love of stories-on the page and off.

We have multiple openings for Bartenders, with full and part-time opportunities available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve cocktails, beer, wine, coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages with precision and care
  • Prepare light food offerings
  • Deliver warm, informed service that reflects Book Bar's layered, crafted personality
  • Navigate high-volume periods with calm, professionalism, and clarity
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe bar environment
  • Accurately manage POS transactions and tip tracking
  • Assist with bar prep, inventory, and restocking duties
  • Collaborate on seasonal or book-inspired drink menus
  • Support bookstore events (author readings, signings, trivia nights, etc.) by managing bar service and guest flow
  • Foster conversation and curiosity through genuine, book-forward customer engagement

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum 2-4 years of bartending or mixology experience in a fast-paced bar, restaurant, or café setting
  • Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, spirits, and local craft beverages

  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • SmartServe certified

Preferred:

  • Passion for books, writing, and cultural events
  • Experience working in unique, community-oriented hospitality environments
  • Experience with programming and/or executing events
  • Creative flair for designing specialty cocktails or themed drink lists
  • Experience with the 'Toast' POS system

What We Offer

  • A vibrant, inclusive workplace that values individuality and creativity
  • Opportunities for growth within a one-of-a-kind concept at the intersection of books and hospitality
  • Staff discounts on books, coffee, and cocktails
  • A chance to be part of a team that celebrates culture, conversation, and craftsmanship every day

We can't wait to meet someone who loves a good story-whether it's told in ink or in a glass. Including a cover letter with your application is a great way to let us know why you'd be a perfect pairing for our team.

If you've got unique experiences or perspectives-especially from underrepresented communities-we'd love to see your application.
