As a Mechanical Engineer (Mine Hoist), you will join Spencer Engineering, a division of BESTECH and Englobe, and work with a specialized team supporting the design, assessment, modernization, and certification of mine hoisting systems across North America.

Your main responsibilities

  • Apply and promote Englobe's health and safety policies, procedures, and culture;
  • Perform mechanical engineering calculations, analyses, assessments, and technical reviews related to mine hoisting and industrial mechanical systems;
  • Prepare and review mechanical designs, technical specifications, drawings, reports, and engineering deliverables in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements;
  • Support the design, assessment, modernization, rehabilitation, and certification of mine hoisting systems and related mechanical components;
  • Conduct site visits to collect field data, complete inspections, assess existing equipment, and provide practical engineering recommendations;
  • Develop technical solutions to address equipment condition, performance, reliability, maintenance, and modernization requirements;
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, designers, technologists, project managers, contractors, and clients;
  • Lead or support QA/QC reviews of technical calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and project documentation;
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, proposals, engineering studies, and client presentations;
  • Coordinate project activities to support scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client service expectations;
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, field implementation, and project close-out activities as required;
  • Continue developing specialized expertise in mine hoist systems while supporting mentorship, technical collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What makes you unique

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university;
  • Registered Professional Engineer, P.Eng., or eligible for professional registration in Canada. Engineering trainees may also be considered;
  • Minimum of 4 years of related mechanical engineering experience; candidates with less experience may be considered based on relevant background;
  • Experience with mechanical design, calculations, technical analysis, assessments, inspections, or equipment-related engineering;
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, industry codes, standards, and regulations;
  • Experience preparing technical reports, specifications, calculations, drawings, and engineering documentation;
  • Familiarity with Autodesk drafting/design software or related engineering design tools;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute to projects with defined scope, schedule, and budget requirements;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment;
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to producing accurate, high-quality technical work;
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
  • Valid driver's licence;
  • Valid passport and ability to travel to client sites throughout North America, approximately 25% of the time.

Previous mine hoist experience is not required. We welcome Mechanical Engineers with experience in mechanical design, mining, heavy industrial facilities, equipment design, materials handling, cranes/hoists, rotating equipment, or related industrial systems who are interested in developing specialized expertise in mine hoisting systems.
