For more information, visit: https://nlhealthservices.ca/careers/why-nl-health-services/ About the Role: The Payroll Clerk II is responsible for computing, verifying and maintaining payroll, leave and related records of employment within NL Health Services.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
· Analyzing and processing cyclic payrolls in accordance with documents and directives received, policies and procedures and collective agreements
· Preparing remittances for deductions to various agencies
· Answering enquiries and providing advice on matters relating to pay
· Processing payroll memorandums involving a variety of personnel actions in accordance with established time schedules
· Maintaining leave and other records
· Performing other related duties as required.
Job Demands:

· Occasionally required to lift files and supplies weighing less than 10 lbs.
· Occasional bending, stretching to retrieve and return files.
· A high level of visual concentration and precision required to prepare calculations, input data, audit records and review while sitting and using a calculator, keyboard, and computer mouse.
· Auditory concentration is required to listen to and respond to inquiries from staff and agencies.
Job Qualifications:
· Completion of an approved/recognized two-year diploma in payroll or business administration with a specialization in accounting, supplemented by one of the following payroll course options* is required:
successful completion of the education requirements for the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation with the National Payroll Institute**; or o successful completion of the Payroll and Commodity Taxes course from the College of the North Atlantic (or equivalent Canadian post-secondary course).
· PCP designation an asset.
· Payroll experience in a computerized environment is an asset.
· Comprehensive knowledge of collective agreement, pensions plans, and applicable federal and provincial legislation.
· Demonstrated effective time management skills and the ability to meet strict timelines.
· Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
· Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
· Ability to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative.
· Ability to communicate effectively.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (specifically Excel and Word).
· A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
If there are no applicants who meet all required qualifications, consideration will be given to applicants who have completed a minimum of a two-year diploma in Business specializing in accounting* and who are willing to complete the PCP education requirements with the National Payroll Institute. The successful applicant will be required to complete the PCP education requirements within two years of commencing in the position and must enroll in the first course within six weeks of successfully completing their probation/trial period.
*Proof of a current business administration program and payroll course(s) is required. To be considered current, the program must have been completed within the last five years, unless it is being used on a regular basis in recent positions. This must be demonstrated on the applicant’s resume.
**Courses previously completed under the previous Canadian Payroll Association program will be considered.
