The Department of Justice and Public Safety is dedicated to the rule of law, the promotion of the public interest, and the impartial administration of justice and works to improve the safety, security and resiliency of communities and citizens.

This competition will be used to establish an inventory of qualified candidates to fill entry level permanent Conservation Officer vacancies throughout the Department of Justice and Public Safety's regional operations. We presently have vacancies in Doaktown, Campbellton and Hampton, NB; additional vacancies will be filled as operational needs are identified.

What you will do

The Department of Justice and Public Safety is seeking individuals to join the Conservation Enforcement team. In addition to a Natural Resources mandate, Conservation Officers possess a general Public Safety mandate and are expected to provide emergency response during public safety emergencies and assist police in supporting roles as required. They are responsible for the enforcement of various Provincial and Federal legislations including the Criminal Code of Canada. The successful candidates will be responsible for:

• carrying out enforcement/compliance patrols
• conducting investigations
• apprehending violators
• performing searches
• collecting and seizing evidence
• managing violation files
• appearing as a Crown witness in any resulting court cases
• performing other related duties as assigned

They possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling them to work effectively both as part of a team and independently. Conservation Officers exercise sound judgment, strong decision-making abilities, and the capacity to adapt to evolving situations while maintaining professionalism and integrity in challenging and dynamic environments.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have:

• Diploma from a recognized forest resource or wildlife technical program or a Bachelor of Science in a natural resources related field;

• Successful completion of a recognized conservation enforcement program
• Successful candidates will be required to submit a CPIC and vulnerable sector check with fingerprints conducted by their local police department

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Some positions require written and spoken competence in French and English. Others will require written and spoken competence in English or in French only. Please state your language capability.

Candidates must demonstrate on their application how they have acquired the education and experience for this position. Your resume should be in chronological order, specifying education and employment in months and years, including part-time and full-time employment. Operational Requirements: The following operational requirement are also required:

• Possession of a valid class 5 driver's license
• Work nights and weekends and respond to after-hours calls
• Work a 40-hour work week

Once trained the successful candidate must have the ability to:

• Work alone with minimal supervision
• Carry and utilize control tactics tools including firearms
• Perform field work/patrols
• Ability to carry out physically demanding tasks
• At times, work outside in inclement weather on all types of terrain
• Operate patrol vehicles, snowmobiles, ATVs, and any other machinery deemed necessary by the Department of Justice and Public Safety

Conditions of Employment: As conditions of employment, successful candidates will be required to successfully complete and maintain the following items arranged by the department:

• An approved psychological suitability assessment
• Successfully complete the Conservation Officers physical assessment
• Department of Justice and Public Safety Use of Force training and firearm qualification.
• Any other training deemed mandatory by the Department of Justice and Public Safety

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

Wage

$2,238.00 to $2,797.00 biweekly based on education and experience

Work environment

• Work in remote areas often alone
• Trucks are equipped with mobile Offices
• Work independently or in a team environment
