Position Scope:
Under the direction of the Manager/Director of Support Services, perform cleaning, housekeeping and laundry duties as assigned and maintains a clean, safe environment, following Infection Control Standards. Represents Mountains & Meadows Care Group (MMCG) Resident Centered Care Philosophy.
Primary Responsibilities / Duties Laundry
· Daily general laundry duties; wash, dry, fold, sort linens, and resident personal items in a timely fashion.
· Pickups of laundry on all neighborhoods at designated times.
· Label and wash new resident admissions personal items, ensuring prompt return after laundering.
· Communicate needs for department; linens, chemicals, and supplies.
· Keep a clear separation of clean and dirty laundry items and sides of laundry room.
· Clean lint traps as per department guidelines.
· Clean and then disinfect; all high touch areas in laundry room, laundry bins, and equipment daily, or more often as necessary.
· Disinfecting equipment and surfaces after exposure to bodily fluids.
· Dry mop and spot mop Gala Lane, Garden View, and Sunset Ridge Dining Rooms in the evening after supper, once residents are done eating.
· Sort resident personal clothing per unit, hang and fold as per department standards.
· Complete cleaning checklist at end of every shift.
· Turn off propane at end of day.
· Store equipment safely, and report any maintenance issues to manager and in maintenance book.
· Maintain a safe and supportive environment at all times for residents, staff, and guests.
· Use appropriate signage (wet floor) when needed.
· Ensure chemicals are filled and used correctly.
· Labels for chemicals are correct and legible and SDS sheets are reviewed annually.
· Maintain WHIMS certification annually.
· Read communication board, book, and Read Me Binder.
· Stay up to date on Standard Operating Procedures for Laundry (SOP Binder).
· Keep laundry room and folding rooms clean and organized.
· Follow Fire Drill procedures as per Fire Plan; review annually and with changes.
· With appropriate training, assist, support, and guide residents in all activities of daily living including, but not limited to: recreational and leisure activities; provide meal and snacks as required; and maintain the general upkeep of the home.
· Document and/or communicate changes in resident mood, behaviour, or condition to appropriate staff.
· Practice safe lifting and moving techniques
Qualifications:
· Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
· Able to read and comprehend labels and instructions, e.g. Proper mixing and use of chemicals
· Ability to use special cleaning equipment including institutional floor scrubber, industrial washers and dryers.
· Knowledge of requirements of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
· Knowledge of WHIMS and annual recertification required.
· WHMIS certification
· Demonstrated teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills
· Strong customer service skills
· Must be able to complete physical demands of the position
· Experience working with the elderly an asset
Hours of work: 8hour shifts. Must be able to work weekends, holidays.
