Position Scope:

The Maintenance Worker, under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager, is responsible for ensuring the safe, functional and clean operation of the facility's buildings, equipment and grounds. This role includes performing routine maintenance, repairs and preventative upkeep, responding to maintenance requests promptly, and supporting a safe and comfortable environment for residents, staff and visitors.

Responsibilities:

· Help to maintain heating, lighting, plumping and electrical services, kitchen and laundry equipment in good working condition.

Helps to maintain furniture, doors, locks and windows in good repair.

Help to maintain records of service for equipment.

Assists or aids in Fire Drills and acts as Fire Warden in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.

Helps maintain snow and ice removal from walkways and doorways in Winter season

Assists in maintaining grounds in good condition.

Checks Maintenance requests regularly for items that are needed, small repairs and maintenance needed.

Assists Residents and families with moving in or out as required.

Receives orders at freight door and delivers the supplies to the designated areas.

Assists in renovations, painting, and general maintenance as required.

Operates in a safe and efficient manner any equipment or tools required.

Activate fire alarm systems as required and oversees safe evacuation or relocation procedures.

· Must have a working knowledge of the requirements of the OH & S Act. Acts in compliance with OH&S, fire safety and IPAC requirements.

· Knowledge of boilers, compressors, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, generators, air conditioners, floor polishers, scrubbers, laundry equipment, and kitchen equipment an asset.

· Display good judgement in working with residents, staff , contractors and the public.

· Work with unexpected disruptions and changes to normal routine.

Be physically and emotionally able to perform assigned tasks related to maintenance

Qualifications and requirements:

· Licensed Trades Person or equivalent

· Grade 12 or equivalent

· Recent (within 4 years) related work experience.

· Standard First Aid Certification

· WHIMIS

· NVCI

· Ability to organize workload and set priorities

· Competent in oral and written communication and instructions

· Valid NS Drivers License.

· Be a team player and foster collaborative relationships.

· Be accountable and responsible.
