Qualifications:
Graduation from an approved LPN Educational program.
Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Successful completion of Breastfeeding Essentials or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated
by employer).
Knowledge of computer skills and an ability to work with Meditech is an asset.
Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR).
The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.
Duties and Responsibilities: (Include but not limited to):
Completes client assessment, routine clinical tests and records all input & output.
Prepares and administers medications as assigned, may administer laxative suppositories.
Demonstrates a sound basic knowledge through quality of care provided and carries out the prescribed plan of care, working within the regulated scope of practise, inclusive of dressings, personal care, vitals, etc.
Involved in regular observation of client’s progress, recording and reporting observations on clinical records and to Nurse-in-charge.
Prepares and administers infants/clients feedings as required.
Provides support to the client and family and their reactions to the client’s condition and care.
Works with Medical Officers and implements treatment requests under the direction of the Regional Nurse.
Maintains cleanliness and order in the clinical area, ward and other assigned areas.
Sterilizes and maintains equipment and supplies.
Gives written and verbal reports which are complete and appropriate.
Performs work in a safe manner according to OH&S guidelines.
Participates in staff meetings.
Interprets to new staff and students, the facility, departmental beliefs, policies, procedures, standards and routines, by answering questions and acting as a role model for co-workers and students.
Provides incidental teaching to new staff and students by sharing knowledge and clinical expertise.
Performs domestic duties in absence of the Domestic Worker.
Acts as a preceptor for students from LPN program, College of the North Atlantic, when requested.
Completes data required for the Workload Measurement System.
Prepares charts for day clinics.
Answers telephones and files.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
