Definition of work:

This professional nursing position will work in
collaboration with team members across various aspects of the
Surgical Services program within CNRHC and has responsibility to
provide complete nursing care in the Ambulatory Clinic and the
Operating Room/Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) under the direction
of a Registered Nurse.
Work involves providing nursing care and treatment services within the
Perioperative and Ambulatory environments for all clients and their
families including the physically ill, disabled and/or cognitively
impaired clients. The candidate will be required to follow a twelve-
week schedule that includes on call Perioperative coverage for
evenings and weekends and scheduled rotation through the
Perioperative and Ambulatory Clinic areas. The successful candidate
will report to the Manager of Perioperative and Ambulatory Services,
CNRHC.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be
responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centred
care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team
members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety
into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

â–ª Constantly moves/lifts up to 10-15lbs, regularly moves/lifts up to
50lbs; required to restrain/reposition/move/lift up to, or above, 50lbs
with co-worker assistance
and repetitively required to complete pushing/pulling with medium
force (22-44lbsF).
â–ª Constantly stands/walks. May work in awkward or cramped positions
to assist with care. Work repetitively involves reaching/stretching,
bending/twisting and repeated bouts of low level postures such as
squatting, crouching or stooping.
â–ª Potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids and/or other contagion.
May be exposed to patients/residents with potential risk for
aggressive behavior.
â–ª Work Environments present potential for exposure to
scented/chemical products and/or other allergens within publicly
accessible areas.


Required qualifications:


â–ª Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the
Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early
Childhood Development.
â–ª Graduation from a practical nursing program approved by NLHS
â–ª Currently registered with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of
Newfoundland and Labrador.
â–ª Current BLS certification.
â–ª Completion of a comprehensive recognized peri-operative nursing
course.
â–ª Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
â–ª Demonstrated competency in working to the full scope of practice (as
per the CLPNNL and NLHS policies and procedures) and
standards of care relevant to designated client population.
â–ª Completion of other skills and post basic competencies as required.
â–ª Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team
and support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with
unpredictable outcomes as required.
â–ª Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse for patients where the
acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge
and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
â–ª Demonstrated proficiency in Wound Care Management and
Medication Administration including IM, IV and subcutaneous
injections
â–ª Consistent demonstration of NLHS corporate values;
Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (ICARE)
â–ª A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required
for this position.
â–ª A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police
