We have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Bridge Engineer in Training to join our dynamic team based in either Halifax, Nova Scotia, or Fredericton, New Brunswick. As our ideal candidate, you are early in your engineering career and excited to build your technical skills in structural and bridge engineering. You are motivated to learn from experienced engineers, contribute to quality work, and be part of a collaborative team that takes pride in developing practical, thoughtful solutions to engineering challenges.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Support Design Work: Assist with the analysis and design of new bridge and structural projects under the guidance of senior engineers;
- Contribute to Evaluations: Support structural evaluations and condition assessments of existing bridges and related infrastructure;
- Gain Field Experience: Participate in site visits and inspections to collect data, observe existing conditions, and support construction-phase services;
- Prepare Technical Deliverables: Assist with technical reports, design calculations, drawings, specifications, and estimates of probable cost;
- Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with in-house disciplines, including geotechnical, highway, civil, water resources, coastal, environmental, cost estimation, climate change, mechanical, and electrical teams;
- Innovate: Work with teammates to develop bespoke designs, new tools and efficient workflow utilizing computer programming, AI and advanced analysis software; and
- Build Technical Skills: Learn and apply current design codes, standards, software, and internal quality processes while contributing to high-quality project delivery.
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
- Educational and Professional Credentials: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required, with registration or eligibility for registration as an Engineer-in-Training with a provincial Engineering Association;
- Early Career Experience: Up to four years of relevant structural engineering experience, with exposure to bridge engineering, structural design, inspection, or construction considered an asset;
- Technical Foundation: A strong understanding of structural engineering principles and an interest in developing knowledge of bridge design, constructability, and current design codes, including the CHBDC (CAN/CSA S6);
- Analytical Mindset: Ability to approach technical problems thoughtfully, apply engineering judgment, and seek guidance when needed;
- Collaborative Communicator: Strong communication skills for working with engineers, technologists, drafting personnel, and multidisciplinary project teams;
- Organized and Detail-Oriented: Ability to manage tasks, maintain attention to detail, and contribute to project schedules and deliverables; and
- Motivated Learner: A desire to grow technical expertise through project work, mentorship, and ongoing professional development.
