This is a 1st Year Apprentice position. Under the Apprentice Program Agreement this position is paid $19.32 per hour.
Second year is paid $22.08 per hour
Third year is paid $24.85 per hour

Definition of Work:
The Carpenter Apprentice undertakes skilled or advanced work at the apprenticeship level. Work of this class involves the performance of standardized repairs and maintenance of buildings and equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to, installs and/or repairs to offices, doors, windows, glass, locks, and office furniture such as desks, bookcases, and shelving; performs masonry related duties such as repairs, replaces, or installs brick, concrete blocks, paving stones, ceramic floors, and wall tiles; operates power tools including table saws, electric drills, and voltage meter; completes work orders, fills building supply orders, and delivers goods to applicable buildings; performs annual maintenance checks on various pieces of equipment and/or building structure; may provide advice and guidance to new and existing employees; and, other related duties including general maintenance as requested. Travel within the region to perform maintenance related duties may be required. The successful candidate is responsible for the utilization of proper methods, materials and tools used for maintaining buildings, surroundings, and equipment. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
• Minimum one-year post-secondary program in Carpentry.
• Currently a Registered Apprentice or eligible for enrollment in the Apprenticeship Program with the department of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of computers including MS Word, Access, and Excel.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills
• A valid Class V driver’s license issued by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience working in a health care environment.
