POSITION SCOPE:

The Cook is accountable to the residents' to ensure a high quality of work is maintained while balancing tasks with residents' needs and relationships. They will work under the direction of the Neighbourhood Manager - Support Services Lead as a member of the multidisciplinary team. The Cook works in providing an Eden Alternative approach to resident directed care. The staff person works within the framework, policies and objectives as set out by Tideview Terrace and the Department of Seniors and Long Term Care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

· Completion of NSCC Culinary Skills program or equivalent preferred.

· Three to five years cooking experience preferably in long term care preferred.

· Completion of Food Handlers Course within the past five years.

· Knowledge of food service infection control, WHMIS, and type and proper use of chemicals.

· Knowledge of how to maintain a clean and safe work environment following proper techniques and OH&S safe work practices, including use of chemicals and equipment.

· Knowledge of therapeutic and texture modified diets considered an asset.

· Knowledge of recipe building and recipe modification.

· Must be a good team player in an organization that fosters a supportive environment for the residents and staff.

· Demonstrate a commitment in providing an Eden Alternative approach.

· Ability to work independently and as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.

· Ability to balance tasks with residents' needs.

· Actively promotes activities that are meaningful to the residents' needs.

· Adaptable, responsible and takes initiative.

· Displays positive attitudes and behaviours.

· Displays problem solving and decision-making techniques.

· Clear written and verbal communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills.

· Efficient in basic computer skills.

· Must be physically capable of performing assigned duties that involve lifting, bending and stretching and meet the overall physical and cognitive demands of the job.

· Maintains confidentiality in all aspects both on and off duty.

· Outstanding work history inclusive of good attendance, demonstrated availability to work and available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.
