ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Rural Zone is seeking applications for three (3) Clinical Chief positions. Each position is 0.4 FTE (0.2 fixed + 0.2 flex) and is site-specific. The three positions are:

  • Clinical Chief — Carbonear (Carbonear General Hospital)
  • Clinical Chief — Clarenville & Bonavista (Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital & Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre)
  • Clinical Chief — Burin Peninsula (Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre)

Candidates are asked to indicate their preferred site when applying. Each Clinical Chief is accountable for the leadership and management of the assigned region, providing professional quality medical leadership and knowledge to the site. The successful candidates will play a key role in establishing and maintaining clinical services and will lead the integration of physicians, other practitioners, and employees within the region to better coordinate health services and ensure patients receive high quality, timely health care.

These positions are suitable for physicians seeking to combine a leadership role with an existing clinical practice. Operating in a complex and dynamic health care environment, the successful candidates are innovative, collaborative, and transformational leaders who will bring an unparalleled passion for health care. Travel within the region may be required.

Each Clinical Chief is accountable to the Senior Medical Director of the Zone and VP Medical Services, Chief of Staff within NL Health Services.

The term is three (3) years with annual review, which may be extended for an additional three years pursuant to NLHS Bylaws Respecting Medical Staff. We are looking for individuals who have strong leadership and communication capabilities, can motivate team members, move projects forward, and can translate innovative ideas into reality.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Eligible for membership of the medical staff of NL Health Services
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice
  • Experience and/or academic preparation in health care management or leadership
  • Training and/or education in leadership and management considered a strong asset

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide effective clinical leadership throughout the assigned region
  • Champion and advocate for the region's services internally and externally
  • Provide leadership for ongoing professional development, education, research, and innovation
  • Participate in the ongoing planning and development of service delivery, facilitating and supporting change management processes
  • Ensure full participation, buy-in, and morale are maintained throughout the region
  • Ensure the highest quality of service is delivered consistently across all professional staff
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
