Definition of Work:
• Develops, implements, and evaluates evidence-based behavioral intervention programs to support residents in personal care homes and long-term care homes, and patients in acute care awaiting long term care; all who exhibit complex, challenging, or responsive behaviors.
• Provides clinical consultation and behavioral support to residents, families, healthcare providers, and interdisciplinary team members to promote resident and family centered care and optimize quality of life.
• Conducts comprehensive behavioral assessments to identify contributing factors to challenging behaviors and formulates recommendations for individualized care planning and intervention strategies.
• Collaborates as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of resident and patient care plans.
• Delivers education, training, and mentorship to healthcare providers, staff, families, and other team members on behavioral management principles, interventions, and best practices.
• Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives aimed at improving behavioral support and care outcomes within personal care and long-term care homes.
• Collaborates with regional interdisciplinary team members on the appropriate use of antipsychotic medications to reduce potentially inappropriate antipsychotic prescribing and usage among personal care and long-term care homes.
• Supports quality improvement initiatives, policy development and evidence-informed practices related to behavioral management.
• Maintains effective working relationships with regional stakeholders to promote best practices in behavioral care and resident and patient safety.
• Coordinates and manages referrals for behavioral assessment and intervention services across the western zone, prioritizing service delivery based on resident needs and organizational requirements.
• Provides consultation and direct clinical support to personal care homes and long-term homes throughout the region, including regular travel to regional sites to conduct assessments, participate in care planning, deliver education, and support the implementation of behavioral interventions.


Required Qualifications:
• Graduation from an approved college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or closely related field with major course work in Psychology in the areas of learning theory and principles of behavior management.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in individual program planning, functional analysis, program design and treatment ethics, and behavior management techniques.
• Demonstrated strong oral and written communication, case and time management and analytical skills, and the ability to work as a member of a team.
• Demonstrated considerable experience in the design and development of behavioral interventions.
• Consistent demonstration of NLHS Core values; Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence
• Valid driver license and use of private vehicle are conditions of employment as travel will be required throughout region.
• Satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
