Join Our Team as a Payroll Officer at Atlantic Lottery!

As a Payroll Officer at Atlantic Lottery (AL), you will play a key role in ensuring employees are paid accurately, on time, and in full compliance with legislation and internal policies. This junior professional role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, collaborative, and eager to grow their expertise in a structured, well-supported environment.

You will work within a peer-based payroll model, partnering closely with another Payroll Officer and collaborating with Finance and HR teams. While you'll handle day-to-day payroll processing and reporting, more complex or interpretive matters are supported by and escalated to the Treasury Manager. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build strong technical payroll experience while developing your professional judgment and systems expertise.

Why Join Us?

  • Build your payroll career in a junior professional role that provides hands-on experience, peer support, and structured oversight as you grow.
  • Stability and security, backed by a public-sector-style employer with a strong reputation across Atlantic Canada

Application Deadline: July 3, 2026

Responsibilities

Payroll Administration & Compliance

  • Process regular and irregular payrolls, including earnings, deductions, taxable benefits, and adjustments, in compliance with policies and legislation.
  • Validate payroll results, identify discrepancies, and ensure data accuracy before final processing.
  • Apply payroll legislation, collective agreements, and internal policies to daily payroll activities.

Systems, Reporting & Controls

  • Use payroll and financial systems (e.g., ADP Workforce Now) to enter, review, and maintain payroll data.
  • Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and documentation to support financial reporting and statutory filings.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, including T4s, Records of Employment, and taxable benefit reporting.

Collaboration & Support

  • Respond to routine payroll inquiries from employees and internal stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the other Payroll Officer to review work, resolve routine issues, and escalate complex matters when required.
  • Work closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll data aligns with approved staffing and financial records.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or a related field (preferred).
  • Approximately three (3) years of progressive payroll experience in a payroll or finance environment.
  • Experience processing payroll in a complex organization and using payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now.
  • Must be 19 years of age or older and reside in Atlantic Canada.

Professional Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment within defined procedures and guidelines.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.
  • High level of discretion and commitment to confidentiality.

Assets:

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation through the National Payroll Institute.

Work Location & Flexibility

  • During probation: Full-time, in-office at our Head Office in Moncton, NB
  • After probation: Choice of full-time in-office or hybrid (2-3 days per week onsite)

Compensation

  • Salary Band: $52,000 - $78,000
  • Expected Hiring Range: $55,000 - $62,000 (based on experience, skills, market conditions, and internal equity)

AL Benefits

  • Extended health coverage (medical, dental, vision)
  • Basic life insurance and disability coverage
  • Defined Benefit Pension Plan
  • Three weeks' vacation annually (pro‑rated), 13 paid statutory holidays, and a vacation purchase program
  • Wellness support, including wellness programs, 3 personal care days, and a 24/7 Employee & Family Assistance Program
  • Two paid volunteer days per year
  • Career advancement opportunities

Recruitment Process

We've made meaningful enhancements to our hiring practices in recent years. Our typical recruitment process includes:

  • Two in‑person interviews
  • An assignment and/or scenario‑based questions
  • Behavioral or cognitive assessments
  • Verification of relevant certifications (as applicable)

All interviews are conducted in English, our primary working language, unless otherwise specified.

Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Successful candidates will undergo reference checks and a mandatory criminal background check. Additional financial, educational, or credential verifications may be required depending on the role.

Internal Candidates

Internal applicants must be in good standing, including meeting expectations on their most recent performance review, and must not be on probation. Consideration may also include factors such as performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, attendance, and completion of mandatory training.

A Predictive Index (PI) assessment will be completed or shared with the hiring leader as part of the evaluation process.

Eligibility to Work in Canada

Candidates must have all required work permits, visas, and authorizations and be eligible to work in Canada at the time an offer is made. It is the candidate's responsibility to secure these requirements.

Atlantic Lottery welcomes applications from all qualified candidates. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
