Long Term Asset Planning Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity within our Long-Term Asset Management Planning team. The Long-Term Asset Planning Engineer will lead the development and implementation of maintenance philosophies, tactics, and standards to ensure power generation and transmission equipment is maintained cost-effectively while meeting reliability requirements. The primary focus of this role will be transmission lines and associated equipment. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide operational support and engineering design for live-line programs. Other areas of focus will depend on the successful candidate's background. In this creative, fast-paced environment, this role will help shape the future of the province's energy sector.
Key Responsibilities:
This position ensures that all elements of the long-term planning function and critical spares management are conducted in accordance with Hydro's Health, Safety and Environmental requirements, which includes:
- Create and maintain accurate and complete asset listing/ hierarchies with supporting detail, location, history and financial information;
- Develop and continually refresh 20+ year asset plan that reflects asset rehabilitation/overhauls to major assets; asset renewal requirements:
- Identify what needs to be replaced,
- When it needs to be replaced, and,
- What it needs to be replaced with;
- Drive development 20-year capital plan inputs for assets;
- Recognizing the dynamic nature of long and short-term asset work plans and the expertise of others, obtain input from engineers, maintainers, operators/users, and consultants when developing/refreshing long-term, 5‑year and annual asset work plans;
- Translate the 20-year asset plan into detailed 5-year and annual asset work plans; and update annually;
- Develop, monitor and continuously improve preventative and predictive maintenance programs;
- Develop detailed programs for major and minor overhauls, upgrading and modification to maintain and enhance reliability of transmission line and similar assets;
- Complete risk assessment and assist with reliability monitoring;
- Develop asset performance metrics and develop/execute actions to address performance issues;
- Develop and implement condition assessment tools and monitoring techniques and incorporate results into planning activities;
- Use critical spares framework to identify critical equipment/tools spares based on criteria including acceptable downtime/service levels; impact to reliability; delivery time; failure history; and repair duration;
- Create and maintain the existing contracts for services and various pieces of equipment;
- Participate in technical councils and use technical councils to test long-term plans and promote their role in operational troubleshooting.
The person is responsible for their personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and promoting the company's Safety and Health Program and responsible for any environmental aspects of the job and performing work in an environmentally responsible manner.
What We're Looking For:

What You'll Need:
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in the Civil or Electrical Engineering disciplines from an accredited institution, other combinations of education and experience may be considered;
- Ideally, you have twelve (12) years of progressively responsible and relevant experience with an electrical utility, heavy industrial and/or oil and gas industry;
- This position requires understanding complex systems knowledge of utility equipment and special tools combined with outstanding judgment and technical skills;
- Able to implement strategy through interpretation of cost estimate data, project scheduling and risk analysis;
- In-depth working knowledge of maintenance tactics and cost benefit techniques;
- Proven experience as a team player, a planner, and a communicator with knowledge of line equipment;
- Must possess a good working knowledge of computers and familiarity with the capabilities and uses of a Computerized Maintenance Management System;
- Good knowledge of software tools such as the Microsoft suite of applications, Lotus Notes, JDEdwards, Showcase Strategy, HP Content Manager, and SharePoint;
- Experience with the maintenance of transmission lines would be an asset;
- The incumbent will work primarily in an office and/or field environment and from time to time will work in construction or industrial environments;
- Some travel is required, including by airplane, helicopter, snowmobile, or boat. Must possess a valid driver's license.
