The Cultural Safety, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisor (The Advisor)leads, develops and coordinates initiatives that improve and promote culturalsafety, diversity, equity and inclusion at WSCC, in all Northern workplaces underour jurisdiction and in the programs and services provided by the WSCC to ourstakeholders.

The Advisor as a subject matter expert will ensure that:

· WSCC delivers programs andservices that are culturally safe,relevant and representative, and (acknowledges the history, culture, values,knowledge and ways of being of the Indigenous people of the NorthwestTerritories (NT) and Nunavut (NU)).

· WSCC is committed to gainingknowledge of, recognizing and respecting diversity and equity and inclusion, inour programs, services and organization in our jurisdictions.

· The WSCC is an inclusiveworkplace culture that is culturally safe, respectful, equitable and safe forall employees to feel supported and encouraged to contribute their uniqueperspectives to the work that we do.

Here are a few ways you will make a difference:

  • Leads projects that help all Northern workplaces under the WSCC jurisdiction be more culturally safe, fair and inclusive.
  • Supports all teams in making their services fair, inclusive, and culturally safe for the people they serve.
  • Supports Human Resources (HR) in ensuring the workplace is safe, fair, and inclusive for everyone, including employees and the public they serve.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to achieve strategic goals and objectives related to cultural safety, diversity, equity and inclusion.

What you bring to the role:

  • Completion of a diploma in Indigenous Studies or Social Sciences related discipline (such as Sociology, Political Science, Social Work, Community Development, etc.), with 3 years related experience in training, developing and delivering programs, and/or working with Indigenous and inter-cultural organizations and diversity and inclusion focused organizations, or with diverse communities.
  • Preference will be given to Indigenous Aboriginal candidates.

Equivalencies: May be considered based on a one-year of directly related experience equivalent to one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience. However, combinations of education and experience must often be considered on a case-by-case basis.
