MDR Strategy Group is seeking a Student Editorial Director to oversee production of the next issue of The Registrar Magazine, scheduled for publication in August 2026.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a recent journalism graduate (within the last three years) or a student entering their final year of study to lead the end-to-end production of a Canadian publication for professionals who protect the public through professional regulation.
Published by MDR Strategy Group, The Registrar Magazine features human interest stories, interviews, thought leadership, analysis, and feature stories exploring the evolving challenges and opportunities facing regulators, governments, and organizations operating in the public interest. As MDR continues expanding its international footprint, the magazine is also increasingly focused on stories, perspectives, and emerging issues from around the world.
The successful candidate will work directly with MDR's leadership team and contributors to coordinate the editorial process from start to finish, including story planning, research, interviewing, writing coordination, production management, publication preparation, and distribution support.
This is not a passive internship. We are looking for someone eager to lead, learn quickly, take initiative, and help shape a publication read by senior leaders across Canada and beyond.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
- Coordinating production of the August 2026 issue of The Registrar Magazine
- Assisting with editorial planning and story development
- Researching emerging issues and identifying compelling story opportunities
- Conducting interviews with regulatory, government, and organizational leaders
- Writing and editing content
- Coordinating contributors, timelines, approvals, and revisions
- Supporting magazine layout and production processes
- Assisting with publication launch and distribution activities
- Helping maintain editorial quality, consistency, and deadlines
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

- A recent journalism graduate (within the last three years), or entering your final year of study
- An exceptional researcher and strong writer
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable interviewing senior professionals and asking thoughtful questions
- A fast learner who thrives in a high-responsibility environment
- A self-starter who takes initiative and follows through
- Interested in public affairs, governance, communications, policy, AI, or leadership
- Interested in international issues and global storytelling
- Excited by the opportunity to have production of an international magazine on your resume
- International experience, cross-cultural experience, language skills, or demonstrated interest in global affairs are considered strong assets
- Experience with magazine production, digital publishing, design tools, photography, social media, or multimedia storytelling is also considered an asset, but is not required

ABOUT MDR STRATEGY GROUP

SALARY
This position pays $35 per hour for 20 hours per week.
TERM
This is a part-time temporary summer position expected to commence ASAP and conclude around August 31, 2026.
LOCATION
This role is based in-person at MDR Strategy Group's Bedford, Nova Scotia office. Candidates must be available to work in-office.

CONDITIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
- Applicants be eligible to work in Canada and be located in the Halifax Region of Nova Scotia. Proof of eligibility will be required.
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in post-secondary studies or have graduated within the past three years (no exceptions)
- The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
