ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone is seeking two (2) full-time Hospitalist Physicians within the Primary Health Care Program. The successful candidates will report to the Clinical Chief of Primary Health Care, Eastern Urban Zone.

The Hospitalist will work independently providing services in acute inpatient care, chronic disease management, palliative care, and emergency care and patient stabilization. Successful candidates will be expected to perform clinical assessments and provide medical oversight for patients with common diagnoses including pneumonia, gastroenteritis, congestive heart failure, transient ischemic events, mild acute kidney injury, cellulitis, and related conditions. Patients of higher acuity or outside the scope of practice of the Hospitalist will be consulted to Internal Medicine or other specialty groups as appropriate. Overnight support will be provided by the Senior House Officer.

We are looking for individuals with strong leadership and communication skills who can work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Family Medicine eligibility — requirements available at: https://cpsnl.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Family-Medicine-Flow-Chart-August-2023.pdf
  • Eligible for membership of the medical staff of NL Health Services
  • Eligible for academic appointment with Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Competency and/or experience in the clinical program area
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice
  • Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide comprehensive acute inpatient care including clinical assessments and medical oversight
  • Manage patients with common diagnoses including pneumonia, gastroenteritis, congestive heart failure, transient ischemic events, mild acute kidney injury, cellulitis, and related conditions
  • Provide chronic disease management and palliative care services
  • Provide emergency care and patient stabilization
  • Consult Internal Medicine or other specialty groups for patients of higher acuity or outside scope of practice
  • Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

Remuneration will be in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. Starting salary will be based on years of clinical experience.
