Chief of Staff / Future Senior Leader
Head Office - Fredericton, New Brunswick
Full-time | In-office | Long-term leadership role
Who We Are
Scholten's is a New Brunswick-based convenience retail company with nine locations and approximately 200 team members. We are a growth stage business with a clear long-erm vision and a senior leadership team deeply committed to building people, not just managing locations.
As our business evolves, our current senior leaders will increasingly focus on strategy, capital, and advisory work. This hire is a deliberate investment in the next generation of leadership at Scholten's.
If you are energized by complex problems, real responsibility, and the opportunity to help guide a business for decades - not just years -keep reading.
The Opportunity
We are hiring a Chief of Staff / Future Senior Leader to work directly alongside our senior management team. This role is designed for an early-to-mid-career professional who is ready for broader ownership, meaningful mentorship, and a long runway to grow into senior leadership.
This is not a traditional support role. The right person will help structure how work gets done, spot gaps before they become problems, and gradually assume increasing responsibility across operations, finance, and people management.
We are not hiring for what you know today.
We are hiring for how you think-and what you can grow into.
What You'll Do
Your responsibilities will expand over time as trust and capability grow. Early responsibilities include:
Working closely with senior leadership on day-to-day operational decision-making
Supporting pricing, scheduling, store performance, and market monitoring
Identifying missing or inefficient processes and helping design better systems
Analyzing data to support decisions across operations and finance
Coordinating projects that span multiple locations or functions
Communicating clearly with managers and frontline leaders
Over time, the role evolves toward:
Ownership of key operational areas
Leading initiatives across food service, site performance, and process improvement
Managing leaders and developing people beneath you
Acting as a de-facto operator as senior leadership transitions toward an advisory role
Who We're Looking For
Experience & Background
4-8 years of progressive professional experience
A university degree (business, finance, operations, or similar preferred)
Experience working inside an operating business (not purely academic or advisory)
Some exposure to leadership, supervision, or project ownership
Willingness to live and work full-time in Fredericton, NB
How You Think (This Matters Most)
You are someone who:
Thinks logically and stays structured even when things are messy
Acts with judgment when information is incomplete
Learns new skills quickly and enjoys being stretched
Is comfortable with accountability and ownership
Communicates clearly and earns respect without ego
Is coachable, curious, and open to feedback
Challenges ideas respectfully-including those of senior leaders
Is motivated by building something meaningful, not chasing titles
What We Offer
Salary range: $85,000 - $110,000 CAD, based on experience and demonstrated capability, with clear upside as responsibility grows
Performance based growth in compensation as contribution increases
Direct mentorship from a senior leadership team with decades of experience
A clearly defined development path toward senior leadership
Exposure to real decisions, consequences, and strategy-not busywork
A culture that values integrity, effort, respect, and long?term thinking
This is not a 9-to-5 role-but it is not a burnout culture.
Intensity is situational. Sustainability is the goal.
One More Thing
You will not know everything when you arrive. That's expected.
We care far more about how fast and how well you learn than what you already know.
