CLINICAL DIETITIAN
TEMPORARY FULL-TIME - MATERNITY LEAVE

The R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home is seeking a Dietitian that has self- leadership style, is energetic, and enjoys the company of seniors living in long term care! Our Home is nationally accredited and serves 136 residents and their families and employs approximately 300 staff.

Reporting to the Director of Environmental and Food Services, the Dietitian is responsible and accountable to provide competent, safe, and ethical professional practice to the residents of the RK. The Dietitian will develop, coordinate and evaluate nutritional services for the Home. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provides resident-centered nutrition care that aligns with the RK's mission, values, professional standards, and ethical practices.
  2. Oversees menu planning, food purchasing, inventory control, recipe development, and ensuring nutritionally adequate meals for all residents.
  3. Leads and oversees implementation, education and training of Food Services software DiningRD throughout the RK.
  4. Assesses and monitors residents' nutritional needs through nutrition assessments, care conferences, dysphagia assessments, therapeutic diets, and individualized meal planning.
  5. Collaborates with residents, families, nursing staff, recreation, and food services to support dietary needs, communicate changes, and improve resident dining experiences.
  6. Educates and supports staff through nutrition in-services, guidance on texture-modified diets, feeding techniques, hydration, and best practices in long-term care nutrition.
  7. Maintains compliance with policies, safety standards, and professional development requirements, including participation in committees, certifications, and mandatory training programs

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition from a recognized University; Completion of Dietetic Internship approved by Dietitians of Canada; Member of Nova Scotia Regulator of Dietetics or eligible for membership.

Required Experience

Previous experience in a long-term care facility preferred. -Familiarity with food service operation and equipment would be an asset. -Competence in using computers, Excel, Microsoft -Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with software charting systems an asset (i.e., Point Click Care, Momentum)

Term: Maternity Leave 12 months with possible extension to 18 months
Hours of Work: Non-union Regular Full-time 1.0 FTE Monday - Friday 8:30 - 4:30
Salary: $44.67/hr ($92,909 annual)
